How to actually meditate

Discussion in 'Philosophy' started by lean prince, Aug 1, 2015.

  1. 75% of the time im only thinking about things I want.. How do you meditate? What are some benefits

  2. Well damn, I was hoping people would have commented on this... I am also curious.

  3. I always has trouble with the concept of not thinking.

I can't figure it out. Or perhaps I misunderstood

But I too am curious what exactly it is.

  4. First thread in religion and spirituality is good I did a half successful meditation last night but couldn't go all the way

  5. From what I've learnt it's not an act nor does it involve efforts to suppress thinking, its a different mode from thinking where attention is non judgmentally and purposefully allocated towards the qualities of the experience. On focus type meditations the attention is directed to one point, like a dot or the tip of a flame while mindfulness type meditation can have attention switching to different qualities of the object such as eating a raisin(appearance, taste, smell, touch).Putting effort into not thinking, such as suppressing it will undermine the process and lead to more thinking.

it's simple but difficult, when you find yourself distracted, just acknowledge the fact and go back to w/e the object of focus is.

  6. Focus on your breathing and don't TRY to do anything, Simply Let go of all that is and if thoughts come just accept them and slide them away and back to focusing on breathing.

This video helped me get the idea when i first started

  7. It will change your life. There is no wrong or right way to do it. Simply by sitting and breathing for 5minutes with close to no thoughts means you are already meditating. You will feel the vibration and peaceful wholeness within yourself.

After months or practice you will be able to tap into deeper states and collect wisdom from the Universe :)

    Trust me

  8. I like to listen to music on my headphones smoking a joint and I stare at an old Mayan symbol I have on my wall concentrate on my breathing but I've been meditating daily for 9 yrs so i can't rember how I clear my mind cuz its second nature now

  9. i like medication.

  10. I tend to focus on my breathing and let all other thoughts exit my mind. Its a blissful feeling.

  11. It's easier to meditate when you're stoned because it fastens the process, plus both Cannabis and Meditation lead you into the alpha brain waves state (you can google if you want). I achieved an objective state of mind from meditation plenty of times, rare but possible.

It is sometimes when i vape or have something light but sometimes when you hit a bowl or a joint the paranoia kicks in and everything becomes 2 fuzzy and vibrations are 2 high for you to let go. Heart rate jolts up and such when your stoned.. Maybe with a Light sativa strain it would work a lot better. Don't get me wrong i've had some of my most powerful meditations when high but yeah just wanted to share its not always the case. Thanks for sharing anyway :)Weed is indeed an amplifier of the senses.

  13. You can definitely get to high to relax properly I tend to take a few hits wait five mins if I'm not ready I take a few more
I'm personally hoping that vaping makes it easier to get there without going to far

  14. I agree.

I've always had an.issue with the idea that drugs help you be a better person/meditate better/ make you more religious/spiritual

Or many of the other similar claims.

Weed is a recreational drug and shouldn't be needed as a crutch for important life things

  15. Focus on awareness, or the fact that your conscious of your alive-ness.

"Being aware of being aware is the highest meditation."

  16. Ive been studying meditation very much lately, and also Ayurvedic medicines witch can aid in the process of true meditation.

    Check out gotu kola.

  17. Aim to achieve nothingness first, and euphoria will follow. Focus on your breathing. Neutralize your emotional state. Center your mind around your heart rate and how calm you are.

  18. To meditate is to let go. Sit and silence and let things happen. Watch your thoughts, experience your surroundings, everything.

The experience of meditating is different for everybody depending on your level of consciousness

  19. I lay down and think about my finger tips...once u focus on each of ur finger tips, and clear ur mind of anything except relaxing ur hands and feet to the point u start to tingle.Once u feel the tingling sensation..uve cleared ur mind. Then just lay there for as long as u can until you feel the time is right to 'wake up' ^_^

  20. Sit still, take deep breaths let thoughts flow through your mind pushing them farther away. Then start to feel one feel yourself vibrate. Maybe try mantra or mudra.

I usually see an array of colors and shapes just don't actively dose off
