An armload of cfls or a 250w hps?

  1. 2x2x4 feet tall , I have the option to add good ventilation both intake and exhaust and was wondering if a 250 W high-pressure sodium would be too hot for that space or if I would possibly go for 150 W high pressure sodium?or hell, could I fit a 400 W in there?

  2. A 2 ft T5 setup would probably do well since you only have 4 ft in height to work with.

  3. My 1st pair of double wall cardboard veg boxes finished up with the same 8 lamp 200 watt total CFL configuration.. It was the max wattage the 110 CFM axial fan could keep cool.. Don't bother with an intake fan all you really need is 1 good exhaust fan..
While the 6500K worked well for vegging the basic design isn't all that great at growing plants and there is no way to remote the ballast.. 2nd bad thing is when they do wear out your not just replacing the lamp like you do in a straight line flouro your essentially buying a whole new fixture again.. Not very cost effective.. I'd go the T5 High Output route if flouros either home depot fixtures or hydro shop for a 6 or 8 tube 2x2 footer..
250 watt metal halide or sodium I'd try and hunt down a ballast that will run both lamps.. The bad part is your just to close for a big single HID lamp.. at 4 ft you can't back away in flower when the plant fill the space.. Even the baby 70 watt metal halide I tried fried a couple of more sensitive strains when it was to close..
Here is the design layout I used to get the 8 lamps in a 2x2 spot..

That's the unused 70 watt HID socket in the center.. Don't get me wrong I used the pair of boxes for 2 years until they finally slumped so bad and I had mega hours on the lamps and was way past time to replace the lamps again.. That's the 100 CFM fan in the lower part of the pic.. 4x4 inch 120 volt no adaptors to screw with it was about 35 bucks from the local hydro store.. The 4th and final fan in a long line of progressively higher cubic foot per minute exhaust fans..

Here they are when they younger..
Although this seems pricy by the time I add up what all I spent to create the 8 lamp CFL and the cost of the lamps replacing over time this isn't such a bad deal at all.. just build your cab around it..

Here is the same space the 2 boxes used to take up now covered with a pair of 2 lamp 4 footers from HD.. T5HO

Just my 2 cents on it.. BNW

  4. I like that design, I think that's what I will do. I'm heading to Home Depot now to buy a bunch of bulbs and splitters and a fan and maybey some mylar,
So that set up has eight lights on the top? How did you move the lights to suit the growing plant?or did you just move the plant up-and-down with the lights?

Made up some boxes and a legged thing from PVC to move the plants up and down
The name brand GE or Sylvania 6500K daylight color 23-26 watt are the best for vegging.. I tried the bargain brand 5000k and ended up going back for 8 more of the real thing after 2 weeks.. Spend the coin up front on quality 6500k lamps at least for vegging

This is the ones I liked best on relamping.. Smaller profile then the GEs I started with..

120mmX38mm 110 cubic feet per min.. 120 volt... I had a 6x6 inch passive intake low down.. got this at the local hydroponics store..

  6. Just picked up a T5 Lithuania cfl grow light , 40$ comes with chains mounting hardware to 14 W 6500 T5 bulbs, I figure maybe I'll melt through those on the top of the unit as they are adjustable and I can move them up and down and supplement a crap load of bulbs all over the sides

  7. This is the fun part I go home and start putting everything together and taking a few clones off my girls that I have outside

  8. What is the heart with smoke Sara in everybody's signature? Does that have something to do with those lights
