Windows 10 experience so far..?

  1. How is everyone liking Windows 10? I went from 7 to 10 so it is a lot bigger of a learning curve then normal. So far I really really like it. Like that Windows media player lists .mkv in the local video library finally so everything is listed now. Still use VLC once in while.

That is one thing I noticed I liked a lot. The OS looks a lot sleeker also.

How is everyones else experience so far.

  2. It's exactly the same as every other version, for the average end user. Better performance, and apps. It was more about integrating the Xbox brand into Windows than anything else.

It has fuckin Cortana after all. Lol

  3. im getting backing up out of the way then ill be upgrading in a few hours but make sure read the privacy stuff about it win 10 has some pretty sketchy tos in truth nothin to really worry about unless your doing bad stuff on the computer http://www.techworm.net/2015/07/by-downloading-windows-10-you-are-allowing-microsoft-to-spy-on-you.html but they do basically have the right to give out any info they gather for any reason

  4. Is the start button back?

  5. I like it. The performance is better and I like some of the new features.

  6. Its not bad i suppose

  7. Yeha start button is back essentially, I have never used windows 8 always 7 ultimate. So it is a decent change for me. Of course there isn't that much change. Kinda hard to do a completely different setup. I have all my media on other hard drives then my OS drive so I didn't back up.

The upgrading process went amazingly well. Didn't take to long and all drivers, programs, files, and settings were the exact same.

  8. It's basically Win 8.5 for me. New apps and a reskin and not much else. The current NVIDIA driver is somewhat broken for me as well, I can't downsample or display on 2 monitors so that has me pretty upset. But other than that, I like it.

  9. I just got my HP laptop A6 AMD pre-loaded with 8.1 and the only thing I didn't understand was the tile display...until I hit the windows key and it made instant sense. The elimination of the start button did confuse for a while, but the integration is much smoother on 8.1 normal display (not tile display). Currently choosing not to upgrade to Windows 10 because it doesn't feel like the right move for a patchwork upgrade with newer integration of IE in a new franchise name of Edge via Cortana.

On a side note I've owned about 3 Xbox 360s over the years and have had to sell them all for non-use purposes. If anything the only platform of Windows that needs to be fully functional is PC/Laptop, and 8.1 is plenty sufficient standalone. That free upgrade is still looming though....[IMG]

  10. Get 10, it really is better then 8.1

I have found it to be rather unimpressive. They couldn't successfully make windows 8 work so they abandoned trying to improve it an instead came up with some mix bred of 8 and 7 with a few bells and whistles. It really just shows me how badly Microsoft has failed to come up with anything that is both new and successful in the past few years. They've lost huge in the phone and tablet market. The only thing keeping them successful in the desktop market is business integration and lack of equally priced competition. I really think we are seeing the downslide of Microsoft. Even giant corps crash eventually and MS is slowly killing itself.

  12. MIcrosoft as a corporation greatly reduced influential power when Android demolished the online marketshare of end-users. From a dominance theory that nearly every IBM machine was running enterprise software from Microsoft products, the rollouts of new updates came to a slowed down-halt. The newest problem is integrating smartphones with touchscreens to laptops, tablets, and desktops already currently in circulation, without creating new boundaries and hickups that could slow down the entire mainframe network of everything thus established.
I'm a Windows person all the way, and I found 7 to be a jump-over directly to 8.1, where I currently nestle my interests. WIndows 10 is up in the air for an upgrade they are offering for free.

  13. You are forgetting gaming. That's a huge chunk of their market share.

  14. It wouldn't be that successful if they drastically changed things.. people wouldn't know how to use it because basic OS's are based off of Windows, always have been.

This is their last OS they are going to release. They are just going to keep updating it so eventually everyone will be on Windows 10. I am sure their future updates will overhaul the GUI etc etc.

  15. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE that you can right click the start button on the taskbar and it brings up any settings you would need, can very quickly navigate the important settings and can get into device manager quickly.

  16. No way this will be the last OS lol
Unless they die sooner than I expect. Laptop and desktop pcs will be on the way out over the next 10 to 15 years. Other than a few gamers (who aren't shit to the pc market) people are going further away from needing a pic for daily functions. If I can check email on my watch, watch Netflix and YouTube on my tv, and navigate the Internet on my tablet why would I want a fucking dinosaur setting in the corner of my house to never be used.

I work for a major computer company and if you talk to the people who are designing IT and trying to work a decade ahead most will agree that traditional computing in terms of a windows desktop doesn't have much of future other than business solutions and education, which is who Microsoft has directed the bulk of its resources for the past 20 years.

  17. I think they are going the route of apple, and just making OS's branch off win10, the same way apple is doing with osx. Where every version is essentially a new OS.

  18. In my eyes Windows 10 is made to integrate all of the devices into one smooth platform for Microsoft.

PC + laptop + tablet + smartphone + Xbox = Cortana on the Edge.

8.1 is a good place to stop touching your screens, unless you like that kind of behavior.

As for my laptop of the non-touching type, the OS can only stay stable for so long before it gets wrecked with glitches.

  19. Yup you are correct and that's why Microsoft has said that is will be their last OS ever. They are just going to push updates out, even if a update completely changes the OS it will still be named Windows 10.

I am loving this OS so far I have had it for about a week and half now and haven't run into any major issues that I haven't been able to fix.

  20. Tried to upgrade for like the fifth time and once again got that 800400 whatever error. I guess m$ isn't planning on fixing it so no Windows 10 until I get a new computer.
