I have some fresh trim and popcorn buds that are nearly dry. When they're completely dry I want to use them in tincture and edibles.
How long would you decarb fresh, but dry trim/popcorn buds? I was thinking an hour at 220F.
    Thanks,
    Joker

  2. An hour seems a little excessive --- 30-45 should be fine. Don't seal the dish when decarbing since there will more than likely be quite a bit of moisture left in the material and if sealed, it will make a wet soggy pile of material (ask me how I know...)

  3. Thanks OneE, especially about the advice not to cover the stuff. Do you feel like telling the story of how you know?

I had picked up some fresh trim from my grower - straight off the drying racks - was plenty dry to smoke.
Came home and put it in a pan and covered to keep the smell down (NY Diesel smells BAD (((terriffic))) when decarbing) - popped it in the oven for 30 mins --- half way thru I decided to open and stir it around a bit - when I opened it, it was a big, hot, soggy mass of material.

Its happened many times - with stuff that had been sitting for 4+ months (but not that bad).
I don't cover anymore unless I think the smell will be horribly problematic --- I don't believe you retain that much by covering unless you rinse the pan (and cover) afterward. If making tincures, its better to dry the material completely rather than possibly save lower terps that may not matter...

  5. Try 25 minutes 30 at the outside

  6. Thanks, sickmanfraud. Luckily that's exactly what I did.
