Anyone tried installing or successfully installed Windows 10 today?

  1. I'm trying to install it on a laptop that I seldom use. It's running 8.1 right now. This shit is taking forever and giving me all sorts bullshivism. The first time I tried to download the upgrade, it was 2GB. The download was slow (I'm assuming everyone and their mama is downloading it right now). After the download was complete, it took another 30 min to "prepare for installation". Once it started the installation, it suddenly stopped and gave me a "update failed error code". I had to delete all the temp download/install files to be able to trigger the Win10 download again. This time the download is 4GB. [IMG]

Lots of people are having different issues. Getting stuck in the middle of the download, preparing for installation, stuck in the middle of installation, black screen of death after the upgrade etc etc.

  2. I upgraded at about 2:00am mtn time this morning. It took around 2.5 hours from the time I downloaded the update until I was logging in to my windows account. Took about one hour for downloading and preparing installation, about an hour to install, and about 30 minutes to build the user profiles after the update. This is on a dual core 3.0 ghz with 4gb of ram.

  3. Keeps failing for me when I try upgrading via Windows Updates. I'll try downloading the ISO tomorrow and give it a try.

  4. Installed it on both computers this afternoon.
Took about two hours from the time I started
until they were done. No issues at all.

    Maybe I'm lucky or something.

  5. yup

finished mine up a while ago

Flash only works with Edge as far as I know at the moment.

other than that, game streaming is functional (all I was really worried about)

  6. i fucking love it. it upgraded via the net with no problems. actually, it made the LG led tv i use for a monitor much clearer. almost like windows intuitively adjusted text and type for the TV display. i also have, ahem, 850 GB of music on this PC. i use this pc to game with as well. i really need to get my self some working storage to plug into my router.

so far i like the look and feel of it. almost like a mix of win7, win8 and then new stuff that makes me think better functionality then the tablet style button bullshit. i am going to go listen to music, watch some T, movies and play some games on it before i give it a proper review. but so far i will say i am with the crowd on this. i give it a tentative FUCK YEAH! was confused on it a bit but I've decided to just go ahead and upgrade. I didn't know it was something I could do in the backround. I thought I would have to completely delete 8.1 and then install 10 from scratch. It's 4am and download is at 40% in ten minutes with mediocre internet so that's good. A little worried about their dumb decision to make it so we can't turn off automatic updates, so if something bad happens everyone is fucked.

From what I've seen from videos it doesn't seem too different than 8 with most features being better, which is cool. I'm just a casual user so I don't get too deep into all the customization and apps and everything but there's some cool stuff to have. I hear the new browser is a lot better than chrome performance wise, but it's pretty barebones so that might change, also no extensions so no ablock...

  8. I downloaded it yesterday morning with no issues other than it was slow from everyone downloading it plus my internet was acting up lol The actual install took about 45 to an hour.

I actually like it. It made my laptop run smoother/faster.

  9. Windows 10 has DirectX 12 which supposedly makes graphics look better/run smoother even on older hardware.

  10. I tried to install it using that. And it did install, only took about an hour. But as soon as my computer restarted it loaded up windows 8.1. Guess I'll just have to wait until the notification pops up.

  11. I didn't wait for my reservation, you can go to windows 10 website and download the installer. I installed it on Wed on my desktop and had 0 issues.. I have a really nice computer though with plenty of RAM and nice fast CPU. It upgraded perfectly. Left all programs installed and all settings even. The only driver it didn't roll over was my graphics driver BUT I didn't upgrade with nvidia before upgrading.

So far I LOVE IT. I never used 8.1 though so it is still a learning curve for me. Not used to settings that look in this way. I went from 7 to 10, skipped 8 and 8.1.

Runs smooth but I always have at least 90 processes running in background which seems like a lot but maybe that's just how it shows it. I have 16GB RAM so I am not too worried about it.

  12. Make sure that you verify that your anti virus/firewall software is running after you install it. it turned off my norton security suite and completely uninstalled it. I only found it because I know a thing or two about computers. Normally windows will alert you when your security software is fucked up or missing, this NEVER happened. Beware!

  13. Sounds like the installation didn't actually go through. Did you watch all the steps? Did it go through the following 3 steps...Copying files, installing features and drivers, configuring settings? You should see a screen like this

If Windows 10 installed successfully, it would have installed over the Windows 8 folder. Windows 8 would be completely gone.

  14. windows 7 was a joke. much like windows ME. I'll stay at 8.1 because its so damn fly. and if the missing start menu is baffling to you, hit the windows key. voila its magically awesome.
