newbie: how many bad trips u usually get?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by 2600htz, Jul 29, 2015.

  1. Hello:

Because of a chronic pain i have, this week i started trying weed to help my problem, smoking every day once or twice.
(I was a very ocassional smoker, like one time a year thing, and no more than 1-2 hits).

What surprised me after smoking this whole week is that around 50% of the times i had a "bad high" (where i felt my chronic pains even more, mixed with stress, and a mental fog, like a hangover).

( The high was also maybe a little different that what i recall experiencing: This was more mental, psychedelic, first time i feel like time/space distortions, weird perceptions, etc). I never got laugh attacks, munchies, my eyes never got red, also my body wasnt extremely relaxed as some of my past experiences.

    "Bad trips" are normal?
Or is just the strain wasnt suited for me?

    Thanks!.

  2. "How many bad trips do I usually get?"

None. Because you don't "trip" on weed. Yes THC is a psychoactive chemical , but hardly in the realm of actual "tripping".

Some sativa's are known to give a more "psychedelic" feel , which to some people is a bit much , mentally.

I would try to stick with indica's if possible. Indica's are the couch lock / heavy body load types of strains. Less "psychedelic" feeling. I love a good sativa myself.

For some it makes them think / feel in ways they were not expecting and that's where the "bad trip" comes into play.

  3. Thought I posted this already... As Above So Below said an indica is preferable for you. Have you thought about using a tincture for pain? There is a pinned posting about making tincture in the edibles section. Good luck.

  4. I never really had a bad high, only intense highs. I used to... When I was a rookie... Not anymore, though...

  5. sounds like weed isn't for you.. i'd try advil or something for your pain.

  6. it might be the strain. I've never experienced any of that. I mean if I smoke too much, I'll have a really intense high for 10-20 minutes but then it mellows out.

  7. Took me 4 or 5 different strains to find my favorites.

    1. You are smoking too much
    2. You are smoking the wrong strain
    3. Marijuana is not for you

    Pick your poison.

I have Chronic pain, I smoked with my wife last night and all I felt was relief.

  8. It's perfectly normal for a new smoker to be a bit overwhelmed in the senses. Just dose with caution and gauge your limits. It's hard to measure exactly what you're smoking so it's best to under-do it rather than overexpose yourself. Even if you can only take one small hit for a few hours.

  9. I haven't really had any bad experiences - but there was one strain that consistently gave me nightmares every time I smoked it. I'm talking like five straight times, guaranteed nightmares.

But, aside from the trying indicas (which you'd probably prefer for pain), maybe you're overdoing it a bit and it's making things uncomfortable.

  10. I've gone overboard many times in the past, but I've never had a 'bad trip', because cannabis doesn't make anyone 'trip'.

  11. I have chronic back pain (I have stainless steel rods along my spine to correct my scoliosis) and this happens to me too. Usually when I smoke indica though. Once I even fainted because it made the pain so unbearable. Lately I try to smoke sativa because it really helps with the soreness or have an ice pack near to relieve some of the stress.

  12. This is strange to me because indica is usually known for pain relief, as well as relaxation. To the OP, I'd try a different strain before giving up on weed (preferably an indica), but I've never heard of weed making pain more intense. My first couple years of smoking every high was great and enjoyable, last couple years I get some not so great highs with a bit of sadness or occasional anxiety, but I think that is more about my life situation than the weed. Can't say I've ever quite had your experience, though. When I started it felt like time would slow down, and I'd get more laugh attacks, but I don't experience this as much anymore, especially solo smoking.
