Can you help with strains for depression but with underlying panic disorder

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by LaLaLaLola, Jul 28, 2015.

  1. Hi.

I was hoping to get some help or suggestions with strains. I will also try and describe the stuff I've tried to see if its identifiable.
I am medicating to improve my mood but the thing is i have dealt with panic disorder for few years. I feel panic is different from other anxieties so it is difficult to experiement. The panic is generally triggered by bodily sensations..body numbness, dizzy, feeling out of body, etc. Personally I don't think marijuana is the way to go if you have this particular anxiety disorder but last year i developed depressive symptoms. they got progressively worse. this year, over the course of 2 months I called a crisis line 2 or 3 times. I was considering checking into a hospital(which I don't have a problem doing, i'm just not sure how it would help) and had bad thoughts, I was contemplating what words I would say and to whom, if I wanted to leave a goodbye at all. It was at this point I felt improving my mood was more important that the panic issues I have.
My friend gave me some stuff, and the first time It was not a good experience. But this was the first time using in over a decade so i think it was to be expected..I began to like the effects very much. I felt more focused on whatever i was doing, things seemed clearer. Even watching a boring tv program was engrossing. Music sounded really good ya know. I felt relaxed, but not that numb, practically comatose feeling....the problem is that she has no idea what strain it was..since them ive tried hempstar which is a 3 strain sativa...that was a terrible experience filled with anxiety and feeling disassociated..so I am staying away from pure sativas.....i then tried girl scout whichas pretty good as well, not quite like the first one i tried but I would order it again as a go to strain, i just wondering if there are better out there....then yesterday i tried yet another strain which was hybrid OG strain I didn't care for this one much, it left me with that feeling like i was floating though my bed with no mental benefits. i feel like it would work better for pain management..
what ive noticed is the 2 strains i tried that i liked were both drier.. the ones that i didn't like were more hard to pull apart, not quite sticky but not quite dry and crumbly if that makes sense. I think hybrid is best for experimenting , just not sure if indica or sativa dominant//thc level, etc works best. i have been recommended the high cbd strains, but im not necessarily looking for relaxant as I take benzodiazepines for that. but maybe i am misunderstanding these higher cbd strains..If you have read all this thank you so much. if anyone can relate or can suggest anything based on this information, or even tell me if there is a similarity between the drier weeds so i have a better idea of what to try out next.

  2. I am just starting this journey also. I have chronic migraines (almost every day). Almost every experience I have had has been NOT GOOD lol, in the panic department. Same as you described. (I also have PTSD and panic disorder) I have no idea what strains I have tried. Just what a friend had on hand. But it got rid of my headache! I will be watching this post closely. The best of luck to you. Depression and panic disorder are a b*tch.

Thanks, same to you hopefully we get some ideas. . only thing I can recommend is to start slow with any new strain. I take like 2,3 drags then wait awhile and work up if need be until i see how it affects me. The Hempstar was 3 strain sativa which I would highly recommend to stay away from if you have panic issues.

  4. well there is a delicate balance for getting thc and cbd in correct amounts. the cbd will stop panic attacks and the thc will uplift you so they work hand in hand. just as you mention though it is hit and miss most times and even the same strain grown elsewhere could have completely different effects than the strain you tried. probably best to pick up little amounts at a time and try them at home, when you hit the correct one go back and get as much as you can to store up for future use. then find other strains that works for you and rotate the few strains regularly to keep the molecular signature of the strains new to you and your receptors. this keeps the " well this strain worked last week but not this week" from happening as you rotate your strains to handle your condition
