I want to keep it natural, so what the best method to make fertilizer from Peat Compost?

  1. I like to grow in Irish Peat compost straight from Irish Bogs lol...

So some of my plants are flowering and i don't want to use or spent money on chemical fertilizers.

I want to make tea out of the same compost I am using.

Whats the best method to extract the nutrients of the new compost into a water mixture that i can apply to the plants?

  2. I wouldnt make a tea with peat, granted if its really straight from the bogs it probably does have some beneficial microbes in it. I would find some quality earthworm castings and make an aerated tea with them.

If you really want to get into making your own fertilizers, start looking into korean natural farming and similar techniques. I culture wild lactic acid bacteria, lactobacillus, and ferment plant material with it to make whats called Fermented Plant Extracts or FPE's. I prefer these fermented nutrients over any other kind of bottled stuff, the plants respond so well to them as well!

This is a good site to learn a bit about what I mentioned, they have some good recipes [IMG]

Hope that somewhat helped, if you want to grow truly clean organic meds I would look into these natural and probiotic growing methods, I'll never look back

  3. I agree - I honestly do t think you'll gain an awful lot from "soaking peat in water", especially if your plants are already growing j. It.

Sounds like you're in Europe - how about some comfrey or comfrey pellets? How about worm castings like JC recommended, or some *composted* manure? Kelp?

There are so many better "fertilizers" than peat - and many are easily attainable.

I will say that now that you're already flowering it's getting a bit late in the game to just start thinking about this now. It might not matter so much if you were using bottles but organic gardening isn't an instant thing...

  4. like jerry said, if you're in Europe comfrey, and stinging nettles also. Both should be easy to find.

  5. Fermented Comfrey and stinging nettles have been good to me, my dog ruined the one small comfrey plant i had growing though lol
