Thc syrup, how do I make it

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by dealwithit, Jul 26, 2015.

  1. So I have shatter amd am wondering how I make a syrup. I've tried agave nectar and corn syrup but the shatter ends up on top and the side of the cup when I pour

  2. My best guess would be to dissolve the shatter in ethanol and then make a solvent transfer to get the THC into the agave.

Suggest you ask your question at the stickie thread called Another Tincture Thread....

  3. sickmanfraud has it right- go to the tincture thread and ask your question. In fact look at the index the directions are already in that thread somewhere. As it's such a long thread folks don't mind answering questions.
You do need to make a solvent transfer.

  4. Using alcohol seemed to work perfectly and evaping it

  7. That's great. Did you use agave or corn syrup? Experiment with increasing your heat a little or heating time. You can take it up to 220F without hurting it in order to get those last little specks infused. Also, experiment with using a little more alcohol so that it's not as concentrated and that will help with the infusion, too. Agave is the hardest infusion I've found other than glycerin and it requires more heat. Corn syrup is maybe the easiest other than sugar with honey a close second.

You know, you've just increased your edibles repertoire by several degrees. You can use those syrups in your edibles and they open the doors to another whole realm of cannabis goodies. [IMG]

  8. is the double boiler method good?

  9. The double boiler is good for smaller batches but I suggest that if you want to do larger batches, 16oz or more, use a crockpot like RaJay does. Since the syrup is thick it takes a bit more energy to get it up and hold the needed temps. Just be sure the lid is off after you add the alcohol and, of course, have ventilation. [IMG]

  10. PSAM I have a question, I tried to infuse agave last night and got the separation results. I'm kind of confused as to which method I should try. The ec or glycerin. I feel like the ec version would be best. I'm trying to make a pourable syrup that won't separate when placed in the mixture.

  11. How did you try to infuse it, Jayboe? With concentrate? Do you still have it? :)

  12. I placed 1 gram of concentrates in a double boiler, melted it down added agave then liquid lecithin then food coloring, the taste was there but the concentrate separated once it cooled.

  13. Ah. Yeah, it's a little more involved than that, unfortunately. You may be able to salvage it with a little high proof alcohol and some heat. Usually you'd want to decarb your concentrate first and then dissolve it in the alcohol before adding to the agave. You then heat the mix until the alcohol has dissolved. It will have the oil floating until it reaches around 200°F then all of a sudden it will dissipate. Continue to heat until the agave bubbles start to appear. It's finished then.

If you still have your first attempt, just add about an ounce of 151 or 190 and heat it until it dissipates. Hopefully the coloring will allow you to see when it's finished. One important thing is to keep it stirred and the sides scraped down. The stirring keeps the temperature consistent and allows the oil to get infused better. The liquid lecithin shouldn't cause any problems. Be sure to use ventilation when evaporating the alcohol. It's not the easiest to make but is worth the effort. I make it often and use it as a syrup, a tincture and in recipes.

By the time it's finally infused your agave will be thicker due to moisture loss. You can add a little fresh agave at the end of the heating process to thin it a little. Patience and heat are the secrets. Keep me posted. :)

  14. Thank you very much, I
How do you feel about infusing the agave with flowers the way you would make butter? Simmering the flowers in either agave or corn syrup for hours straining with a cheese cloth and what not?

  15. I've seen that done with honey and using a crock pot but I'm not sure how well it extracted. Agave or corn syrup should be similar but none of them are really good extractors. Chef Derik on YouTube has a video using honey as you described. He puts his material in a cheesecloth pouch and places that in a crockpot of honey for a few hours. You might be able to do the same with agave or corn syrup but I don't know how strong it would be.

One of the things with agave nectar, and to a lesser degree the honey and corn syrup, is a saturation issue. It's easier to infuse your syrup if you allow for less concentration and a larger dose. Fortunately, those thick syrups are normally used by the teaspoon or tablespoon and it is easier to dispense. :)

  16. Ok so I bought the everclear, placed a gram if wax inside the Pyrex dish as a double boiler, decarb ed for about 20 minutes placed an ounce of everclear in the wax and let it sit for 10 minutes as I stirred and let the alcohol evaporate. Then I added 1 ov if lecithin and about 3.5 Oz agave. Stirred and stirred and stirred. The wax just flew to the top and sides and didn't mix in at all...very disappointed here. What am I doing wrong? Is the gas burnet not heating enough?

  17. After you add the alcohol to the wax and get it dissolved, you then add that to your agave. You don't add the lecithin until after everything is infused. If you're using a gas stove, be careful. You then heat the agave and alcohol mixture until all the alcohol has evaporated and then keep heating it. After all the alcohol has evaporated, leaving the oil on top, keep heating it until the agave starts bubbling a little brown foam. And stir. Use a candy thermometer and get it up to 200°F until it dissipates.

It's a difficult infusion. Keep heating and stirring until it dissipates. It will but it takes patience. After you've done it once it will be easier. :)
