Problems with smart pots?

  1. Anyone ever have problems with smart pots? For example maybe your smart pots are falling over or tearing. I've never used them so I was just wondering what I should prepare for.

  2. They basically become the root ball and fill out nice and firm, nothing to worry about there [IMG]

  3. What about reusability?

  4. ive done one in um , no two and ill use again. I have 15 gal but going to 10. I have no issue with sidewall strength, they stay where I put them

  5. the biggest problem is their cost. A sheet of weed guard and some nylon thread and needle is a lot cheaper.

They do tend to dry around the side quite quickly and this can lead to root tips drying and dying back. This happens on the surface with plastic pots but fabric pots cause it to happen around the sides too.

I don't see any advantage of fabric pots and prefer plastic ones myself

  6. I dont have any problems with them per say, but don't find them very useful. I prefer the premium plastic nursery pots, they are much cheaper and in my opinion work just as well under most growing conditions.

  7. besides the whole thing being wet from watering, i love the smart pot. of course i'm only on one grow so far. they are the 2 gallon ones

  8. Best thing I ever bought. The plants can BREATHE! Don't u like to breathe? Lolol

  9. yeah they might dry out a little faster because like people are saying they can actually breathe completely in the pots.. I think it causes better root growth myself but that's just me.

  10. The roots grew right threw the bottom of my smart pots

  11. plants "breathe" through their leaves. they do take up oxygen through the roots but plastic post will never hold a vacuum so there will be just as much air in either.

I find plastic posts keep the soil more evenly moist whereas the fabric pots dry out faster around the edge.

A few dried out root tips aren't going to have a huge impact though so I wouldn't recommend people didn't use fabric pots. But they certainly aren't for me
