Cant get edibles to work...please help

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by schnebly5, Jul 25, 2015.

  1. My friend and I have been roughly weekly smokers for a year and a half. Our tolerances are significant but not overwhelming. We can smoke 2 or 3 bowls in a bong and be pretty up there, but we were getting tired of getting to a [6] or [7] every time. We heard tales of the fabled edibles being able to make people *gone*, and we wanted to try it for ourselves.

We set everything up to make nutella firecrackers because we assumed that would be the easiest, most fool-proof method for our first time having and making edibles. We followed the first recipe on google: we put nutella on graham crackers and sprinkled at least a gram or two on the nutella, and then closed up the sandwich, the weed covered in nutella. We cooked it for 22 minutes at 250 degrees Farenheit. After we let it rest for a few minutes, we ate them. About 40 minutes later, I was at about a [2] or [3] and my friend was at like a [1]. This slowly wore off for like another 40 minutes and then we were sober again. It was the kind of high where you take two hits of a joint at a party and that's it--certainly not as potent as smoking even half a bowl.

So, we figured we did something wrong in cooking it, and the next week, we decided to do more research and try again. We figured we had either not cooked it for long enough, or failed to decarb the weed. So, this time, we decarbed about gram each in the oven for 25 minutes at 250 degrees Farenheit. We then let it sit for about 5 minutes and put it in the graham cracker nutella sandwich in the oven at 320 degrees for 22 minutes. We let them sit for a couple minutes after that and ate them. This time, about 45 minutes in, I got to a [1] and my friend got to a [1] as well. This quickly faded into soberness. Again, it felt like the 'high' you get when you take one hit from smoking.

So...obviously edibles have not turned out how they should. The weird thing is that firecrackers are supposed to be so foolproof and easy that "anyone can make them". My friend and I have been following the steps meticulously with no results. We still have hope that maybe we're doing something wrong. It would be such a shame if it turned out we both somehow have extremely high tolerances to edibles. Is it possible we "undercooked" the weed the first time we tried it, and "overcooked" it the second time? Is there another recipe that would work better than what we're doing? Should we try making/buying brownies instead of trying firecrackers? What has worked in your experience, and is it a common problem that we have?

Thank you for reading and for your help in this troubling circumstance.

  2. Nutella works but it is relatively low fat, what you need to find is some homemade peanut butter which is high in fat. Fat is what THC molecules bind to in the cooking process and the higher the fat content the more potent your food will be. Also, firecrackers work better when you use weed that has already been vaporized.

I say make some potent cannabutter and use that to make cookies. I have been in a bit of a financial situation paying my band off for album pressing & mastering fees so I haven't been able to buy herb since May and as a result I have been staying high off cookies. The trick is to find a balance between the cannabutter vs regular butter in the cookie recipie. The cookies I have are 50/50 and half a cookie gets me baked for several hours. I usually eat one a day. The cookies I had before these were 100/0 so they were all cannabutter and basically, 1 bite was enough to get me baked and half a cookie was actually too much even with my particularly high tolerance.

You could also try making tincture if you have the patience. You can make edibles with tincture and they will come out really potent. I had some caramel make with tincture and it was intense but still nothing like the 100/0 cookies.

  3. What is this "about a gram or two" nonsense? Buy a scale. ;)

I've had excellent results with these recipes: http://forum.grasscity.com/incredible-edible-herb/...

You are correct in pointing out that some people have different levels of tolerance to edibles vs. smoking.
