help building hydro bucket

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by tropicaze, Jul 23, 2015.

  1. I'm using a 12 gallon bin to grow 2 plants, its about 6 inches tall, I wanted to use 2" net pots I already have on this but I don't know if it can support a mature plant, any advice will be appreciated. Thanks..

  2. It should work but depending on how big you let them get, they may require support to stay upright in the future. A few growers here have used 2" and then say they will be using bigger ones their next run.
Personally the smallest I've used for growing is 4", I use the 2" ones with neoprene collars for cloning.

  3. Thanks hddani, I use the same for cloning, its all I have that will fit the top of my bin since its not flat.

My tent is 4x2x5, I'm aiming for 8oz per plant and I'm planning on using a trellis to keep them short.
Do you know what problems they had with the 2" ones?

if you are going to ScrOG the plants then that should fully support them, but can you put a photo up of your reservoir? id like to see how the non flat surface is causing a problem. 2" pots might pop through the lid due to the weight. i would got to 3-4" if you are able to

a plant that gives you 8oz of bud may have a trunk that is wider than 2"

this plant gave me 4oz and the stem is about 2" wide

  6. I might think six inches of root space is not enough for large root system which you will need to grow a large plant or two! Two inch net pots are too small like the other guy said and will cause problems not easily solved when the plant gets big an has alotta weight pushing down on it! I already am wishing i had sturdier lids holding my big hydro plant as the weight is more than i anticipated! And the stalk is already quarter sized! With at least two months of budding left to go! Good luck and keep posting, i wanna see if six inch rez and small net pots work or how they can be worked around!

  7. I agree with the last guy about having concerns about the depth of your res, you're leaving no room for the roots to grow down. 2 inch pots are going to limit the size of the plants also from everything I have read. I'm running 5 inch pots and it's working great, I don't think I'd go any smaller.

  8. I have 70 litre reservoirs that are 7" deep. I don't have root space issues with a 4' wide plant in it

  9. Thanks for all the input..
I usually grow in 5G buckets, i don't expect any root space issues.
I haven't had a stem that would fill out the net pots yet, I usually get 8-10oz per plant but i can let them grow tall in my grow room, I'm only going to have about 3.5 feet to work with in this tent.

Im currently vegging GSC x polar bear OG and Alien Stardawg x Polar bear OG, once I pick a pheno for the tent Ill post some pics.

  10. you get 10oz from a plant that has a stem narrower than 2"? are you sure?

  11. The stem was probably around 3 - 4", now the 2" net pots are maybe 6" inches around.

  12. I meant the width of the stem. I just can't imagine a plant with a stem narrower than 2" being able to grow more than a few oz. I have grown 10oz plants and the stems are always much wider than 2".

I mean, to get 10oz from a plant that fits in a 2" net pot would be unusual no?

  13. I agree with you, you are not going to get 10Oz off a plant with a stem that's 2" around.

The netpot is 2" tall and 2" wide at the top which is about the same size as the top of a soda can, I don't expect to have a stem that thick.

I feel like we are getting crossed wires somehow. 2" wide stem. I'm not talking about circumference, if that's what you mean when you say around. I mean 2" wide, that's the distance of the diameter

Look at the photo I put up, the stem is about 2" wide and it only gave me 4oz. A 10oz plant will have a wider stem than that

  15. You'll be hating life if you veg too long in 2" pots.
I use 6", but I grow em big!

  16. i think we are, I was referring to circumference, a circle with a 2" diameter has a circumference of over 6", that's a decent size trunk, mine are usually 3" or less, I pulled almost a pound in a 5G bucket from a blue dream plant with a stem that had maybe 4 inches in circumference.

  17. I use 6" pots too, the 2" ones I use for cloning, but the lid on my bin doesn't give me many options, and its the only container I could find that was light proof.

You should stop referring to the stem in terms of circumference as I believe you're the only person using this and it's confusing to everyone. We measure the diameter. Just like every pot is measured using the diameter not circumference.

  19. ok so I'm even more confused now. The whole time I have been referring to stem widths in relation to net pot widths. My point was that a 10oz plant will have a stem that is over 2" wide. Therefore a 2" wide pot is obviously not going to be big enough.

You were the one who first referred to your pots as 2" pots. And now you keep bringing circumference in to it which makes no sense because a stem that has a circumference of 2" would be tiny.

So I go back to my original question. Are you saying that you can grow a 10 oz plant that has a stem width of less than 2"? Because I just can't believe that

  20. Here's your 2" pot...
