Help needed Slow seedling growth

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by quinntastic, Jul 22, 2015.

  1. Hey guys first post on these forums so wasnt shure where to put this.
Need some advice on my first proper grow,I am doing an outdoor grow in the very hot climate of ireland (lmfao) and I am having slow seedling growth.
I know the growth will not be as quick as indoor or hotter climates but I still feel its not going at the pace it should be as it is recieveing4-5 hours of sun per day which is good for here?
I have planted 3x sweet tooth autos,1 la diva an auto strain and finally a cross between northern lights and nig bud.
All seedlings are 10 days old today since they have been moved from germination in a paper towel into the pots and all 5 have sprouted and grown the cotlyons.
However the first set of true leaves(one either side with jagged edges) seem to have stopped growing.
In the center of the true leaves i can see where the next set is coming on all 5 plants but they have not grown in recent days as i thought they would?
sorry for no pics ill try and get a few! all help welcomed.
    Thanks :p

  2. no one is going to be able to give you sound advice without some photos of your set up.

But statistically you are probably watering too often, or using unsuitable soil. Thems the two most common causes of problems this early in the grow

  3. I understand I will get pics.
There is no real set up to show per say as its just a few plants let in the sun!

  4. there will be a ton of subtle clues in a photo that most seasoned growers can pick up on when many beginners won't spot. A photo of a plant in a pot will show many factors that may or may not need adjusting.

But to be honest, at this early stage it's almost always watering too often or using a soil mix that isn't suitable lol

  5. I went out and checked them thismorning and the soil has been wet for a few days due to the rain..I was thinking this could be a factor as obviously a wet medium cuts of air! the nights are dropping to 8 degrees sothis is also a possible slowing factor!
My medium is just a potting soil I bought at the store lol

  6. Dude this isn't going to work I'm afraid. No way can you plant outdoor mid july in Ireland and expect them to survive the coming months. Take them inside and atleast get some CFL's on them or you are just wasting your time. I'm suprised 8 degrees hasn't finished them already but it will soon enough.

  7. yeah guess yourright man was more of an experiment tbh! ill get em inside!

  8. Yep sounds like either watering too often or by watering at all!!! Go and buy a moisture meter so you can see how moist the ground is. It's really easy to overwater seedlings as they really don't need a lot initially. I found out the hard way but have learnt from this mistake. Go to your nearest decent garden centre and invest in a moisture meter and a ph meter.

  9. Lol 8 degrees!??? I'm in uk and growing indoors with 200W envirolite setup. Yeah get some warmth on them before they die completely!

  10. 8 degrees isn't that bad as long as it's getting warm in the days. What is an average daytime temperature for you at the moment?

Be careful the soil isn't getting wet too often. Putting it in a cold frame or small green house may help if it's raining a lot at the moment.

What brand of soil is it? Did you mix in perlite?

  11. yeah its averaging around 18-20 degrees during the day and they are getting good 4-5 hours of direct sun its just the nights are cold! yeah a small bit of perlite!

  12. that doesnt sound too bad. although its going to get colder before it finishes so a greenhouse or cold frame may be worth the investment
