How many gallons of nutrients am I going to need?

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by DoomGuy, Jul 22, 2015.

  1. I am new to growing and I'm not sure how many gallons I'll need for one grow. I will have two bins (3 Black Domino Fem in one and 3 Cheese Fem in the other), each holding 8-10 gallons of water. There will be 5 weeks veg and 10 weeks flower, I'm using Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect Base Nutrient trio. How many gallons of nutrients do you use on average per grow, and per plant? All advice welcome THANKS!

  2. I never use advanced nutrients but with gh nutrients using the lucas formula and your size grow I'd use about a 1/4 gallon of nutes. I run two 3x3 tables with 20 gallon reservoirs and a gallon of gh micro and a gallon of gh bloom last me a year easy.

  3. you should upload more pictures for that.....

  4. Thanks, I that's the answer I was looking for!

My Grow hasn't started yet, I am planning ahead.

What size area do you have? And what lights?

I have tents of 3'x4' lit by around 600 watts, and use a single 70 litre reservoir in them. I find when the plants have filled the area they drink around 10 litres per day. The number of plants don't make any difference.

The bigger the reservoir the more stable the pH, ppm, temperature, oxygen content and the less often you have to top up. So generally I'd go as big as you can.

Sometimes it can be worth connecting another reservoir outside of the tent via a hose and pump. That way you get a bigger body of water, you can check and adjust the nutrient solution without opening the tent, and having half the nutrient solution outside of the tent helps keep it cool

  6. I am growing in a 2' 4" x 5' x 5' closet with sliding doors.
    My lights are as follows:
2x 180w Full Spectrum Mars Hydro LED
1x 135w Full Spectrum Mars Hydro LED
2x 14w Full Spectrum LED Panel
    1x 14w Veg. LED Panel
    4x 13w CFL Lamps
Right now I cannot afford anything more than what I have planned unfortunately. This grow will hopefully fund a move to a better location where I will have many large grow tents and high powered Lighthouse Hydro LED's and reservoirs.

  7. good luck with your grow, wishing you all the best!

  8. ok so using both your 10 gallon reservoirs (about 90 litres) you should have plenty nutrient solution

  9. I think I may have miss understood the question. I thought you were asking how big should your reservoirs be.

So you want to know how much nutrient solution the plants will drink? When fully grown mine drink 10 litres per day and our growing area and wattage are pretty similar so I would expect that, or just under

  10. That is what I was asking, sorry I'm still new to all this. I am only going to have 8 gallons in each bin at a time. I will be changing the water and cleaning it monthly. But I will periodically use a chemical free rag to scrub and break down built up residue without emptying the reservoir. I am working on a razor thin budget so I will be using the minimum amount of nutrients to output a decent amount of good quality bud.

I only empty and refill mine when I change between grow nutes and flower nutes, and only clean the reservoirs between grows. There should be no need to clean them while the plants are still using them.

Make sure you are pushing enough air in to the water and you should be fine

Holding back on nutrients that the plants need will give you a sickly plant that cannot grow bud at a decent rate. The 10p you save on nutes will likely cost you £100s in bud. Give them the exact same concentration as what they take up at any given time for maximum growth speed.

I find mine take up around 1.2 millisiemens/cm when they are maxing out their uptake. Young plants and plants that are late in flower will take up a less concentrated solution and so the reservoir needs to be adjusted accordingly

  12. you will need to add nutes and water on a regular basis. You cannot just do it once a month. As the plants grow they will take up water and nutes. The ppm of the nute solution will change. So lets say you are going to run your solution at 1000ppm, what are you going to do when a week goes by and your solution is at say 800ppm because of nutrient uptake by the plants? you could just dump the whole thing and start fresh (which is very wasteful), or you can add back. That is one of the reasons I use the lucas formula, because it has an add back formula.also, don't be cleaning your res all the time, it is not necessary, I only do it at the end of each grow. Lastly, if you use the AN calculator, run the nutes at 80 percent strength of what it says until you are sure the plants can handle full strength. If the leaves of the plant start to "claw", then the solution is too strong.

  14. OP, read the info at the link he posted, this is exactly what I am talking about and this thread explains it perfectly.

  15. I'm totally going to give them the right amount of nutrients, I just wanted to check with all you guys before cutting corners. I am glad I did because I need High Yielding, Top Shelf Bud so I can afford to upgrade my grow and move out of the south.

  16. if you ordered the liter bottles from an that will be more than enough. I did 5 Dwc buckets and I have some left.. The additives hobbyist bundle is worth it..
