When To Transplant and stop Stretching?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by PonyBudz, Jul 19, 2015.

  1. Hello fello Grass Cityians,

Im some what a new grower, at least with seedlings, these seeds i started i have had at least a year, suppose to be Purple Desil but not sure, either way, living on no budget makes it difficult for my grows, I used the Jiffy Seed starter and has so far worked wonders, i noticed however the seedlings are getting super tall and I'm concerned they will get week stems and start to "droop". I am totally new to seedlings and REALLY need these babies to grow for my medical needs! they were planted a little over a week ago so probably about 10 days old right now!

I do not have grow lights and cannot afford them, i do not use chemicals unless it is for Ph balancing... I have one Larger Aquaponics bucket i want to eventually transplant the best new plant ill have into that.

ANY and ALL help and advice is greatly needed and appreciated thanks!

  2. You need more light to stop stretching, you could pick up cheap cfl bulbs in supermarkets, even a few for a boost, I grow in soil, so if that happened me with soil i would transplant them deep leaving a inch of the plant out of the new soil.

Even take some cfl light out of your room in your house. You already have lights...

  3. Like the guy above said more light will do wonders. Also when you transplant them to larger containers just put them deep in the soil so that it's just under the first leaves and then it'll have a good base to start with

  4. what are the cfl lights? i honestly rarely even have lights on in my house due to very sensitive eyes i can not be around LED or UV lighting daylight is hard enough on me.... they weren't even in light besides sitting next to my lizards tank sharing a smalll heat lamp.

but where can i get these lights and how do i set them up?

When you transplant bury those stems half way or so. They'll grow roots from the newly buried stem.

What light and how many watts are you currently using? How far away from the plant is your light? If your eyes are that sensitive better get some grow glasses or sunglasses at least. There's certain things that make indoor growing possible and lots of light is one of the biggies

  6. Do you not have a sunny window sill where you could put them whens its sunny?

CFL bulbs are the standard energy saving household lightbulbs that you can pick up in Walmart or discount stores.

    For veg you need 6300k daylight/bright white bulbs. <br style="margin-top: 0px; color: rgb(20, 20, 20); font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 14.6666669845581px; line-height: 20.533332824707px; background-color: rgb(252, 252, 255);"><br style="color: rgb(20, 20, 20); font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 14.6666669845581px; line-height: 20.533332824707px; background-color: rgb(252, 252, 255);">For bloom you need 2700k warm white.

CFLs are dirt cheap. They're the cheapest lighting source that going to work decently. They're just household bulbs mainly. CFLs are replacing incandescent bulbs for house lights. You can't even buy incandescent bulbs at the wal mart in my town anymore. Just cfls. Some even use the small CFLs to grow. Just need more of them. If you're against CFLs, LEDs, and mh/hps you're pretty much limited. You could look into t5 high output bulbs or Gorilla grow maybe.

  9. Thanks man! ill just have to go to my local store tomorrow, i had one flop on me already so i had an emergency transplant for two of them tonight i just hope they survive over night.... on average how long should the seedlings stay in the first sprouting box/pot from when it first starts to the very First small pot transplant? i hear about 3-4 weeks, is this true? i don't see even with a proper set up how they could last that long..?

It depends on the size of container and how fast your plant grows to know when to transplant. You'll start seeing roots popping out the drain holes in your container. Sometimes it might just be a random root searching out water in your drip tray. So pay attention

They might be flopping over because of bad lighting. There's more to picking up bulbs then just running to the store if you go the cfl route. 2700k is for flower. 6500k is for veg. At least 100 actual watts per plant. Actual watts not equivelant watts. It will list both watts on the bulbs box. You'll need to go to a grow shop or order online if you go the t5 route.
