Going bananas

  1. Hi all,
I have a few plants grown from seed that had a bit of light stress and went bananas on me. They were around of week 3 when I first noticed, I first panicked and almost chopped down my plants but then thought, hey why not have some seeds? I've very carefully picked off maybe 20 little bunches of nanners in the last week and I know I've missed a few so I'm sure I'll have seeds. They are first generation Alaska thunderfuck X trainwreck from a trusted friend, I call it trainfuck :) . They are some of the bushiest, densest plants I've ever seen, really hardy and tough, cold and pest resistant (I put a clone outside and it's doing fine despite the aphids and cold wet weather here) they are extremely resinous, even the upper fan leaves are covered trichomes with an intense citrus aroma. So I'd really like to keep these genes. I've saved a little pollen for later but how should I store it and how long will it keep for? Also I'm wondering how many different strains will result from self pollination? Will some be trainwreck, some thunderfuck and some trainfuck? Will the tendency to hermie be passed on? These are probably amateur questions for those that breed but I'm hoping someone can enlighten me. I'm actually kind of excited to grow some seeds, with plants like this it seems almost a shame not to keep the genes going.
    Thanks,
    Ding Dong

  2. From what I understand they will be more of a exact replica of the plant used. Unless you took the pollen from one plant and used it on another phenotype or another strain. When you "self" a plant it is jus like cloning a plant really. This is from my understanding of plant genetics. The F1's which are the babies of the two parents, are usually the ones that have a mix of both parents and show diversity like you asked about..S1's..which are Self bred plants aren't as diverse and offer less surprises. Also, the genetics of these seeds you have made are not going to be very stable..I believe they may have the same sensitivity to light stress as the "parent" plant did...so watch for light leaks brother!!!

  3. Good thoughts.... keep it up :)
