BREAKING NEWS: According to the LA Times, DOJ has directed the SSA to implement a system to enter disability recipients using SSA's version of a fiduciary into NICS. The "guidance" was issued in March of 2013 and unbeknownst to members of Congress or the American public the SSA has been working to implement the directive. "Someone can be incapable of managing their funds but not be dangerous, violent or unsafe," said Dr. Marc Rosen, a Yale psychiatrist who has studied how veterans with mental health problems manage their money. "They are very different determinations.

People should not lose fundamental, constitutional rights without due process simply because some SSA or VA bureaucrat appoints a fiduciary to handle someone's finances. The federal prohibitions against acquiring or possessing firearms apply to those â€œadjudicated as a mental defective,â€ among others. The term â€œadjudication,â€ however, refers to a determination made after a judicial-type process that includes various due process protections. In no case does the federal law describe or contemplate the type of prohibition by bureaucratic fiat exercised by the SSA in developing its guidelines for those with â€œrepresentative payeesâ€ assigned to their accounts.

"About 4.2 million adults receive monthly benefits that are managed by "representative payees."
The Obama administration is pushing to ban Social Security beneficiaries from owning guns if they lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs, a move that could affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others.
The push is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws regulating who gets reported to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, which is used to prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the country illegally and others.
A potentially large group within Social Security are people who, in the language of federal gun laws, are unable to manage their own affairs due to "marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease."

So in other words, they are going to use federal data to enforce federal law...

well vets know war, if there is anyone who would know how to use a gun it would be a vet. Take guns away from the vets and the civilians won't be as strong when shit goes down.
The reason for the 2nd ammd is so civilians will be armed to fight in the event our country is occupied by enemy forces.

Why is our government based on a loosely worded document written in the 18th century?

I get that the constitution clearly states our right to bear arms, but this isn't 1776. Things have changed. Maybe our government should change too.

things havent changed.

The right to bear arms is to allow the people to defense themselves agaisnt not only invaders but also domestic threats such as power abuse by government.

There is still war and there is still.corruption, and therefore the 2nd aamendment is not outdated

The question of gun control is nearly moot given the astronomical number and diversity of weapons saturating the American populace.

I know what - let's make owning guns - any and all guns - illegal. Do ya think if El Chapo finds refuge in one of our sanctuaries from the law, he'll feel compelled to fork over all his weapons at the local collection depot?

Exactly! Back in the day when the constitution was written hunting was a given no law was needed to protect people's rights to hunt food. Also foreign invasions, same there our government has no problem with its citizens taking up arms against a foreign threat to our own government. But the real reason for the 2nd amendment is to shoot politicians plain and simple. And beyond that its American politicians of which we actually have a constitutional right to take up arms against. Not a foreign army, not a deer and not paper targets. And also it plainly states that this amendment shall not be infringed apon. If you read the bill of rights this is a unique sentence, one that was to be taken seriously. Our whole constitution balances on the first 2 rights. They are the foundation of all else and the building blocks of individual freedom. F the pope, and F you collectivist pacifist ignorant type people.

Just a little food for thought. A recent study found that of about 15 million children who currently live in poverty, about 4.2 million were black and 5 million were Latino. This means that there are more kids who live in poverty that are black or Latino in absolute numbers than white Kids even though the percent of white children is still vastly higher than either black or Latino kids. I'm not saying that this is based off racism, or that it's any one particular groups fault, just that it is a very real problem.

Economic opportunity seems to be a major source of the problem. Gun control won't do much like you have pointed out, if most of your civilian population is highly involved in illegal activity because they are surrounded by a toxic culture breaded by poverty and ignorance. The recession/outsourcing of jobs to computers and foreign countries has hit the black community harder than the white community because they have less social mobility and access to education since many are trapped in a position of poverty. What motivation does a kid have to study his hardest if he has no feasible way to pay for college or has any role models who can push them to do so as many experience? Not to say that this isn't a real problem for white kids, but the statistics pretty clearly show that black children are disproportionately affected by poverty and this will have serious consequences in the future.
