Surviving The Rains (Outdoor Grow)

  1. What is up guys? Hope all is well..

So here's the thing; I'm doing my best to think ahead to avoid any conundrums that may or may not appear later on. As you may know, it's approaching mid-July right now. I have 4 plants, outside, 3 in the ground, 1 in a 25-gallon smart pot. I'm in the northwest where rain is a sure-bet later in the year. I want to know how you guys deal with the rains when in flowering to avoid mold and all such problems. Any specific canopy-type products? Any suggestions on what to use?

    Any help=Greatly appreciated.

  2. A portable canopy can easily be assembled out of pvc and a tarp. It keeps it lightweight and you can make it any size practically.

  3. I have tall bamboo stakes in my pots and when it rains, I scoot the pots together (better than carrying them all the way over to the covered deck) and then throw a tarp over them- and it rests on the stakes, not the plants.

  4. crispycinnablunts has a great idea with using tall bamboo stakes close together, and draping a canopy cover over the top.
It seems more practical and convenient than building a pvc tent around them.

In either case, you would need to ensure the cover is angled for proper drainage, otherwise you will end up with pools that can tear through and drench your ladies.

Me, personally, I am relying on a greenhouse to protect about half. The other half, I will be spraying with neem oil dilution every week or so. If I see any signs of mold, I will have to crowd the greenhouse.

I also manually force my plants to flower earlier in the season, that way, I can harvest before the rain becomes too bad. It is true that Washington is guaranteed to get a ton of rain in the fall and winter, but we also get some really good summer weather. You can take advantage of this by planting out in early April, moving them into a blackout shed every afternoon starting July, and harvest in October.

  5. If you start forcing them in July, at what point in August do you think it's safe to leave them out all day/night?
