Help with my balcony grows

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Volat, Jul 6, 2015.

  1. Hey guys, I've been lurking here for a few weeks reading up on the absolute beginners topics, and researching early stages of growth like germination and pre-flowering. I'm growing 3 plants for personal use in the Czech republic. White widow (royal queen), Auto blue cheese (dinafem) and CBD Blue shark (barneys farm).
i would like to grow using the balcony, without any chemicals or unnatural substances, as if growing outdoors in a garden or geurilla spot. If theres a specific thread that matches this description, please let me know, otherwise, I shall post my progress and questions here.

  2. Also, its really damn hot here atm, like, between 80 and 95. Are my seeds gonna be ok in the sun wgile theyre still trying to break ground? With a bag on them?

  3. Pulled one of the seeds today as its close to a week that theres been no sprout. Here's an image. Practically no growth of the taproot since germination. Trying to find the problem in various threads atm. My first guess is the excessive heat here

  4. have you kept the soil where you planted the seeds moist?
might be easier to just sprout them inside, even in plastic cups with some soil near a window and transplant them outdoors once they have a few leaves going.

  5. The way I sprout them is by leaving them in a cup of water over night in the cupboard above my refrigerator. The next day after the seed has sunk I put the seed in between a wet paper towel and put that in a plastic bag, I leave the plastic bag in a shoe box or something for 24 hours. After that you'll see a nice little root popping out. Then you can put the seed into your soil. Be very gentle picking the seed up, I'm sure you know the root goes face down and to cover the seed and all that.

  6. or just fill a cup with moist soil, stick the seedling in there and call it a day.
i think all this handling (moving from water to paper towel, then to soil) is just adding unneeded stress to the seed.

soil has been sprouting seeds ever since, well forever lol!

  7. Thanks very much guys. I still have a spare pot, so im gonna try another. Ill let you know how it goes. The 80 weather has cooled off a bit now so hopefully they wont be too hot while trying to sprout. Thanks again!

  8. Juat a little FYI. With a normally planted seed, the taproot initially heads for the surface then makes a U'ey and goes straight down. Straightening out this 'U' makes the seedling break the surface. It is much easier for the tiny seedling to do this flexing than it is to push straight up through the dirt.

A little digging (!), will find some time lapse photos showing this in action.

Yeah, plantind directly in soil ~1/4" deep avoids all kinds of stress and drama.

  9. Ok, so I'll try directly in soil. If the taproot wants to turn around, does that mean it goes in facing up? Pointy side down right?

  10. Scoobiedoobie and wetdog,i planted straight in soil about a quarter inch down, and got a sprout in around 2/3 days! Pictures to follow shortly. Thanks for the help!
