Asthma and weed?

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by HazeyBud, Jul 5, 2015.

  1. Hey guys, as I haven't been able to find a post related to my question, I decided to created one :)

    My question is this:

Could my strange asthma symptoms be linked to my weed consumption? I have been smoking weed on and off now for a few years, and more recently i've been smoking a lot more, after about mid april, i've been smoking everyday with maybe 1-2 days off...

    Anyway here's my story:

I went to the doctors to get a check up on my asthma symptoms (I am 18 years old), however the doctor constantly said I was experiencing strange physical effects, not normal of someone with asthma. For instance over the years my asthma has gotten considerable worse, I used to be able to play high intensity rugby/touch rugby when I was 14-15 for 1-2 hours easily (this involves mainly sprinting for the duration) without suffering shortness of breath, then in my senior year of high school (when I was 17) I couldn't even play for 5 minutes without needing to have a break and my inhaler, which is fucked up ik (it all started to get shit once they changed my type of inhaler... No idea if it's linked to that or not), anyway now I'm dependant on my inhalers for things such as sleep, exercise etc... If I don't have an inhaler i have to rest on the verge of passing out for about 5-10 mins depending on how rigorous the activity was.

Anyway another thing which was very weird was that they measured my peak-flow meter to see how my asthma was going I blew a 690 the first time, and 700 the next two times. The doctor said the average for someone my age was 560+ (it might've been 530, but I'm not entirely sure)... I blew very high about the average, and that average is for people without asthma, she said I should have a peak flow of less than 500, however my peak flow is nearly as high as a professional athlete (I do workout btw, I do boxing, weightlifting + strongman exercises, I run a few kilometres around 3-4 days each week, I only do a few as i'm bulking atm as it's winter where I live. I also occasionally play football and rugby, but usually it's with my mates.

So basically after hearing all that for the doctor I thought It might have something to do with all the weed i've been smoking lately, she asked me If I smoked and I said No, She also asked "that includes everything", probably hinting towards weed, I said no a second time as my mum was there and I didn't want to get a hiding at the doctors. Anyway I am meeting up with them sometime in the future weeks to be checked out by a specialist... Do you think I should mention the fact that I smoke weed to them? (My mum probably won't be at this one thank god :p Btw I don't rely on my mum for everything this was a 1 time thing as my car had broke down a few days before the appointment and I needed someone to take me.)

So what do you guys think? Sorry about making you read so much haha

  2. You should definitely tell your doctors what's up man. You're grown, tell your mom to wait outside. The doctor can't legally spill anything you say. Nice avatar btw, Hopsin is ill.

  3. Weed usually helps with asthma..

    could be diet

  4. Try telling my mom or doctor that/\\

I have asthma too. And use sym-ba-cort ( cant spell it out). For it. It's a long lasting inhaler.

But im noticing a decrease in simptums since i started smoking..... But to say I'm more active than I used to be too. And only smoke about 3 times a week give or take

I don't know what to say. Come truthful with your doctor.... But it might go north if they know how it affects asthma. Or south if they "think" its bad for asthma. Either way its worth a try to stop smoking for a bit. Since it can tax your lungs a bit by having to self clean.

  5. Something that helped my dad when he was having really bad asthma (just like the symptoms you described) was he stared taking liquid drops in his water in the morning and he would also buy small hand held cans of oxygen and breath that in and hold it for a few seconds. He said it really helped him and he doesn't complain anymore. That's my $0.02 though.

  6. I have had asthma my whole life. When I started smoking, I didn't have much of an issue with it. I was still able to do everything I was able to do before I started. As for the inhaler thing. I had the same thing happen to me. My inhaler got switched out, and now it seems it isn't working as well and I'm having to take it a lot more than normal. I would let the doctor know just so they can put all possibilities into account. Good luck!

  7. Hey,

I have a similar question, I had astma when i was about 13-14 (19 now), i used inhalers for exersice, but nothing more than that. About a year ago i picked up the gloroius ganja and life was good, but lately i've been having some difficulty breathing after a spliff. Its compare it too a really small astma attack, i can feel it when i breath feel it but i can easily stay cool with me mates. Its gone 10-30 minutes after the doobie.
