Is a 30 gallon Smart Pot big enough for outdoor use? And what can I do to get them to bush out instead of growing tall

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by Chef William, Jul 5, 2015.

  1. I have four plants in two five gallon buckets that I'm about to transplant into 30 gallon smart pots. Wondering if that's enough room or do I need bigger pots? Also the plants are like five feet tall with thick stalks. But again they are in five gallon buckets two plants in each bucket. And I'm afraid they have out grown there home and are in need of the upcoming transplant. And some training due to them getting so tall and I still have till October till harvest HELP ME ITS MY FIRST OUTDOOR GROW

  2. Omg I just transplanted to 10 gallon fabric pots and my plants r going CRAZY. And yes, get them out of there. It's such a great investment! Wish I could have gotten 30 gals!

  3. Also, don't water the day of transplant. The roots will slip thru dry dirt easier. Then after transplant, drown those puppies. Also, fabric pots do take more watering I've noticed.

  4. LST and topping are you best bet to get them bushy

  6. Yeah 30 too small,, I have 2 30 gallon babies and I wish they had more room but that's what 100 gallons are for..

  7. i wouldnt say 30s are too small provided they arent already on the larger side come transplant. Top/lst for bushier plant.

30 gallon smartpots outdoors though? Hope this is a backyard grow cause youre gonna be watering very often

  8. 30 gallons are too Small please believe me,, you won't get big enough plants, you will not,, I spent a good amount of money setting up a 30 gallon grow.. And I hardly believe I will get back what I spent..

If that is the case mate then I think something else is might be wrong. You may of vegged too long or feeding is off, could be heaps or things other then pot size. How much are you trying to yield per plant? They look good to me.

  11. They look damn good.. Right now,, 30 gal is just it enough for me,, I see them everyday and they're small to me ..

  12. its all about what you want, for sativa they need more space and grow taller, indicas will be shorter and smaller root systems, use LST to bush your plants out, this will work without topping or fimming, but if I was you I would cut at a 45 degree angle on the meristem below the last set of nodes and use the top of the plant as a cutting (clone), then bend the plant over and tie it down to expose the lower branches to air and light, within a few days you will see a huge difference, in my opinion 30 gal will be fine for this grow, you will learn from this and get better, everyone has their own style, I'm using 10 gal pots for this years outdoor and my plants are fine, I must keep them small here, but there is no way I will lose money on any grow, if you do with the price of good flowers now a days then you are doing something wrong .

Totally agree, Unless the plant is spread out and the majority of nodes are growing nice tops then you aren't making the most out of your pot. Even if the pot is too small and packed with roots as long as you are feeding her enough she will still keep growing and yielding.
That happens with everything like that, if you were lifting weights to gain muscle you don't notice the difference as much as someone that may only see you once a week. Those plants should get well over a pound each already. If they were scrogged out like that picture I posted above then maybe double. What i'm trying to say is a 30gal pot should be the last thing holding your plants back.

  14. ??? I Topped them earlier in the season LST And supercropped.. My plants will yield a few pounds OF Quality Marijuana.. But its just not enough for me.. 30 is good for beginners.. But if you want something worth 7 months of your time 100 Gal and up is the way to go.. My plants are really short like 3 1/2 Feet Tall but they are wide ASF.. Guys guys,, It Maybe a few pounds but its not enough,, I May sound like I'm doubting them but I'm Not,, because they Are MAXING out the 30s Well.. You can get a damn good yield from a 30 even a 10 dont get me wrong,, I'm just saying ITS Not Enough Cannabis FOR ME..

  15. BTW Nice Name Grow2dab

  16. Plants Are like 2 1/2 weeks Into flower,, so I cant ( but Have Many times) I don't Feel Like I'm losing money.. I just thought the money I spent would give me more out of the 30..

  17. That's awesome you're are getting pounds, foolish me thinking that was enough for most people lol. OP mentioned was a beginner outside don't forget that's why I said 30's fine. And yeah I spaced on the length of time it takes outdoors, but that kinda helps with my point. As a beginner you don't really want to invest too much in case you do stuff up one or two.

Next round yeah go nuts, as big as you want.

  18. Yeah,, I hear you man, I'm in socal so the season is like 6-7 months long. I just want their roots to be able to stretch out all season which in turn would yield pretty substantial..

  19. I grow in 200g - 1000g gal. 30 is small.

To answer your question about bushes, topping works, but I never top my plants and they are all bushes. Here is a hint, kelp.
