Hey guys first post please excuse me if this has been answered elsewhere I looked everywhere on here and couldn't find the answer to my set up. Anyways I got a new rig I never owned one and wax is finally around in my area so I decided to pick up the grav labs buoy base it comes with a Quartz nail .. My question is I can't figure this piece out .. Am I missing a piece ? So as soon I received the piece I torched it for few minutes it got orange I put that other glass piece over the nail and tried to dab it sort of worked .. After a few more tries i finally got one good one and that's it .. Now if I fill my piece in and out the nail in and try to suck nothing happens.. In other words I have to take the nail out to see water bubbling otherwise it doesn't ... Could it be clogged? What am I doing wrong ? Also do I just torch the nail or the top piece too I've seen YouTube videos of people burning that top piece too.. And last question where do I touch my wax the side of the nail or on top ? Thanks guys for the help just got this baby and haven't been able to enjoy it at all
Those nails are just meant to be temporary. But basically remove the dome(top piece) heat up the top of the nail(just aim the torch at the side and get it hot) place dome back on and put the wax on the top of the nail and take your hit. I would look into a more permanent nail.
Ya I tried that bro but nothing I feel like it's clogged I have no idea how but it's the same as if ur lighting a bowl and it just won't rip all your doing is lighting the bud on fire .. Can a nail get clogged ? Or is this a seasoning issue ?
what type of torch are you using? EDIT sounds like your nail is too big. wouldn't be the first time a headshop sold a shitty fitted piece. i would wash it in iso and contact the supplier.
I'm using a 25 dollar torch I got at Home Depot , so you think the nail being to big is the reason I can't get a hit
Also the nail is flat at the top I don't understand how a hit goes through.. The only way it seems to work is if I dab it and slowly lift the nail up using my dabber kind of like you would pull the bowl out to clear a bong .. If I don't do that it doesn't milk up
You might be able to use your dabber to move the top of the nail around in a circular motion while you are dabbing. This would un-seat where the nail goes into your downtube and allow air to pass by. As far as everything else sounds it seems like you are doing it right. Would need better pics but they should not have sold you a rig with a nail that is too big.
Ya it sounds like the nail is too large for the joint which is restricting the airflow to your pipe. Try using your tool to angle the nail off the joint when you are placing your dab on the nail, this may allow more airflow. If the nail being too large is not the case then you may want to check your honeycomb disc and make sure that the holes are not mended together. I would recommend getting a domeless Ti nail for your piece. A 14mm female domeless nail would do you a lot of justice.
