  1. Hi

I was wondering if you can help me with a problem, my plants are about 6 weeks old and have been in a polythene greenhouse for a week and it was pretty humid in there.

The top leaves have really curled up a lot and the rest of the leaves are turning yellowish. I think they may be holding to much water due to the high humidity and poor airflow. When i repotted them into the grow bag, the roots were very soggy. I have been leaving the door open now all day and have NOT watered them since as to try and dry them out a bit. I havent gave them any feed apart from what was in the seedling compost, which says it would last about 4 - 5 weeks.

I would appreciate some help from some people with more experience than me.

    Thanks a lot..

  2. Looks like heat stress, whats your temps like? is this outdoor? foliar sprays with silica really helps with heat tolerance.

  3. thanks for the quick reply.

yes they are outdoors in a plastic greenhouse.. i guess as it was very humid the temps would of been quite high. dont know the temps inside the greenhouse but the outside temps were around early 20s (celsius), mix that with the humidity and it probably could of pushed it to around the 30s.

i will look into the foliar sprays that you mention, for now i have just been leaving the door open all day.

  4. Yeah it looks like heat stress.
Keeping the door open will help a lot. You only need about 60 to 65% humidity in that green house when veg. Are you giving them any ventilation and fresh air?
Those plants are not seedlings anymore, they need to be out of the greenhouse environment with less humidity more circulated air.

  5. Hi Trichuk

well since i noticed the leaves curling i have been leaving the door open all day for ventilation and fresh air. unfortunately there arnt any vent flaps on the greenhouse so i was thinking of turning up the bottom of the greenhouse for some extra air flow..

I do really need to keep them in there as for a bit of stealth, but as seen as its more than likely heat stress at least i now know how to deal with it, do you have any other advice.

    thanks.

When you say turning up, do you mean disturbing the roots? I wouldn't do that if I were you, if that's what you're going to do. You can cut a small window hole in the tent and screen it up with a few layers, make an inner hood facing down but long enough down so know one can see.
They're going to be in shock for a bit, so be patient with them and yeah let them dry out.

  7. no, i meant turning / rolling up the bottom of the greenhouse, not the plants. its only a small tent style greenhouse and the plastic is tied to the main structure... this would allow air to flow right across them aswel as the front door been fully open.

i did think about making some kind of vent using velcro to attach it. but if can achieve some good air flow / ventalation by rolling the tent up a bit i think that would be best.

do you advise not to water them whilst they recover?

  8. Sounds good:)
