I wasn't sure where to post this but since I'm growing in coco it seemed as good a place as any.
I've got a curious situation, not sure if it's a blessing or a curse. I'm growing a new strain from some seeds I got from a friend with a large medical grow. The seeds were trainwreck x alaska thunderfuck (whatever that means, I'm from alaska so I know the original "matanuska thunderfuck" was never a single strain, just any good weed from the mat-su valley) . Anyway I FIM'd them at the 8th node and did some LST in the first week of flower. Due to various reasons I had to let them go a little longer in veg than I originally wanted to. I did a conservative lollipopping but since I usually grow big plants and I'm used to stretchier strains I let them grow a lot of tops, like 16 or so each. Now I'm at week 2 of flower, they've already stopped stretching, they are all about the same height, main top included and they are so fucking dense and bushy I'm concerned that there there may be so many tops that they're crowding each other out. They look unbelievably healthy and lush, in fact I've never seen such dense and perfect green foliage before. I partly credit that to them having very strong indica genes, being a first generation cross and partly the fact I've got my temps and nutes well dialed in and the hormone/vitamin booster from MB ferts that I'm using (no advertising intended but the shit is amazing). I know it's a no-no to remove upper fan leaves during flower, though I've heard some swear by it when the situation calls for it. I'm mainly wondering if my yield and/or quality will improve or suffer if I cull a few of the branches. I suppose it's all a case by case basis, perhaps I should cull only a few weaker branches that are competing with the stronger ones? Any thoughts on pruning tops in early flower? ..... I'll post pics tomorrow.

  2. The great debate again. To pick or not to pick. I'll admit I'm a leaf picker. The white rhino I have , has massive fan leaves. I lst all my plants , and as they get mainly colas. I trim all if the bottom leaves that don't get light and then take the fans that are covering the inside top of the cola, so the light can get down in the . middle. Just my way.!!! I haven't seen any change in yield. The buds down below get a lot more dense..you can take the top off the colas at harvest and then grow the bottom out for a week or two. I don't have time for that though. That cross sound like it could be quite potent. ??

  3. I'm looking at the again, thinking of doing some very careful and light pruning just to get a bit more light into the canopy. Pulling the tops up through the canopy and pushing the fan leaves underneath has helped but I think there are a few branches that still could come out.

  4. Very heavy canopy.i think if your going to grow big plants. You need to get the light down there, other wise your left with a lot of smaller buds which is a pain in the arse. Just depends on how close you can get your light and how far the light is penetrating

  5. I always trim up to 3rd week in flower. My plants get too dense and when I don't remove some leaves AND small branches my yield suffers and I've had powdery mildew show up. I finish my plants at 44" - 48" and average 2 to 4 oz. per plant, depending on strain. I trim every plant I grow. Been growing since 1994. I also use some super-cropping techniques in my grow room to spread the branches and I lollipop 1 or 2 weeks before flower. I grow in coco, run 1-400W MH and 1-400W HPS + 8 100w CFLs for seedlings and clones in the grow room (7' - 5'). Flower room has 2-600W and 2-400W HPS in a 8' x 6' room. Just the way I do it. Best of luck in all your endeavors. Peace, comrades Phezisica

  6. Too many vaginas!?!?

    Nope never.

Your quantity might suffer some but not as much as harvesting the whole too early. It's a right of passage go ahead and sample some. Dry it on the heater. Smoke it too wet. We all been there.
