I tried this thread already in the general section with no success, so I decided to try here.

Im in the process of moving to Fairbanks AK. I will be living in whats called a dry cabin. No running water, no plumbing, no bathroom.

I would live anywhere from 3 to 10 miles from downtown fairbanks. A cabin like this would be about 3 to 500 a month.

If I found the right landlord I could even grow a few plants next spring.

I could live however I want. I plan on finding a job, and offset my food costs with hunting and fishing.
I could ride my snowmobile to town in the winter, and there are a ton of dirt bike tril riding. A ton of hiking.

Id have to haul water in 5 gallon jugs, chop my own wood for heating over winter. My only bathroom would be an outhouse, and average winter temps are -20 to -40.

This is my inner hippies deam. Id be living off the land, and have all modern conveniences, and a college within a 20 minute trip to fairbanks.

    Im stoked as fuck.

  2. good luck and have fun!

I would love to do stuff like that when I'm older and retired.

I do plan to build a cabin out of country to retire in, say the Swiss alps type of area.

  3. See, I think early 20s would be a perfect time to do it.

Fairbanks is a college town, so there is young people there.

With a little ingenuity, and the ability to survive off the land, one could live how they want, hold a job, and go to college. This would all be withing the beautiful last frontier of Alasla.
