water filtration

  1. So recently I got interested in filtering my own water.
I've been using those brita filter pitchers for a couple of years, water bottles are just too expensive and makes a lot of trash, plus they don't taste that great.
After looking up many different filtration systems, i went with a gravity fed system, similar to the brita, just much more beefy and a much better filter. It filters things I've never even heard of and at tolerances that make me not care anymore. It passes the red dye test which many filters fail.
Here's a stock photo off the web.

It takes longer to filter than a brita, but I'm guessing the water has to go through much more material.

Each filter is about $50 for a replacement (comes with 2), but I believe they're rated to filter about 3000 gallons before replacing, which is a lot of water, like 24000 pounds of water.
the whole thing cost me about 290 bucks, and I won't need a replacement filter for about 5 or 6 years.

    The water tastes amazing!

  2. Wish I had a RO system when I was doing reef tanks. Each gallon was like $2! My aquarium was evaporating over a gallon per day, and 25% water change weekly was killing my wallet.

  3. Yea its nice but it wastes a lot of water..im on a well though so it doesnt cost anything

  4. Ah lucky.

I rent a house so I don't want to set up an under the sink filter....

My mom's place has natural wells, but she lives over an hour away so I can't always get awesome water from her haha.
