Vapes vs Water bongs vs Pipes for the lungs.

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by SmilaxTheMan, Jun 13, 2015.

  1. I'm a n00b to smoking cannabis in general (only 2 months into this wonderful experience :D ). So far I've only smoked joints and done edibles both of which I love. I don't wish to stop as it's helping my life long emotional problems noticeably!

However my lungs fucking hate the joints. I only smoke 3 joints or so a week 1.5 grams. But my lungs are already inflamed and complaining the rest of the week just from that. I do a hard cardio workout / run 25mins every day and during this my breathing is now noticeably more laboured and even sore. Is this fucking normal !!?? This frankly has me scared. Cancer runs deep in my family and while I know smoking weed is a LOT better than smoking cigs I also know there is research that smoking it certainly isn't harmless in terms of lung health.

So I'm vowing to switch from joints to something better. Now I know the best is a vaporizer which I'm likely to pick up this week, though there are so many options I don't know where to start. Have to do some research first. My mother has actually offered to buy me one, lol, which I'm going to take her up on and pay her back over time.

However I'm also curious on how other would rank other options vs joints in terms of lung health. Specifically a water bong and or a pipe. Are water bongs still hard on your lungs at all? And do pipes offer any benefit whatsoever over joints? Part of the reason I'm curious about these is that I understand that the high one gets from vaping is different from both edibles and combustion. I'd be curious to try these too if they are any better than joints since I enjoy the high I get now.

  2. Vape is definitely the best way to go for lung health. That's just common sense. As far as the best vape for a beginner, I'll leave that to another, as I do not vape.

bongs can go eitherway. The cooling of the smoke will be much, much smoother on the lungs. I find that an ice bong that really cools the smoke is even better. However the flip side is when you hit a bong the hits tend to be pretty big, so for a beginner you'll probably just wind up taking too big of a hit and coughing your lungs up

  3. Go to the vape section and look around. Vaporizers vary greatly and everyone's opinion of their vape will be different.
personally I don't think vapes offer as much entertainment as combustion, but may not be the same for you.

And besides, you've only been smoking for less than 2 months, don't expect veteran lungs just yet.

  4. I have a MFLB and a Silver Surfer which I enjoy both. I would look in the vape section here and look at ones you like the looks of then do a shit ton on research on it to see if it is any good. I would also go to fuck combustion as that site is for vaporizers. I would also avoid a pen vape cause from what I have heard is they don't have one that does not burn the flower as of yet. I would also look into making more edibles as they hit the best and the high can last for a long time at least for me they do and yes I know they effect others differently.

If I felt safe in knowing that my lungs were going to heal and that it was safe for my lungs long term I would stick to it but I don't feel that way. Besides even short term I wish to keep up my runs and exercise and right now this is just too hard on me for that. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take a look at the vape section.

Thanks for the info! I'm sure sooner or later I'll try a bong, hopefully water/ice bong and see how it effects me :p

Thanks for the info! I've done a little research already and know of the Silver Surfer. I've been leaning in the direction of one of the better reviewed portable herb vaps (not pen), the Arizer Solo. Thanks for the info on the site!

Indeed I'm going to continue edibles as I love those. However I find they get me a little too sedated at times, almost depressed.

  7. Im coming from a bong standpoint although I have used j's and pipes. Which I find j's to be less harsh on me then pipes and bongs to be better over the other 2. Even with my asthma I don't find it bothers me as much as your saying it does...

Bongs can be approved upon with a carbon filter. It takes out most of the tar from the smoke. So the hit is less harsh.

Then also trying warm water is pretty good too. And gets better with tea in the bong water.

Although you can take massive rips with bongs I find minimal decreases in lung performance. and it to be short lasting to.

  8. can you post a link to the carbon filter you're speaking of? I've never heard of one for a bong. Curiosity has peaked my interest and I would like to check it out.

... Its for a roor filter but they are all the same. And it gives some good pro to con followed by a 10 pic of hits where the bowl turns black and bong is clean.

There is greenbhuddashop.com they are the only ones that i have found to have a carbon filter in 14.14mm and 18/18mm joint with a slitted dome screen( most others I have looked for need screens separate)

    http://www.greenbuddhashop.com/CLEAR-GLASS-FILTER-ADAPTERS-WITH-EXTRA-CARBON-ROCKS-K-CLIP-CA.htm

They include a k clip and a sack load of carbon to. I think they ship from IL. Us free shipping ,Canada $10 bucks

They have a bit of a learning curve. When you clear the bong you take the adapter out instead of the bowl.( thats why they give the k clip so it holds the bowls joint together) The carbon must be washed free of dust and dried prior to use. Since that dust can give you black lung. And don't tip the bowl with adapter over cuase the carbon will stick like made to any resin

  10. Thank you. Bongs today are not the bongs of my day. Almost need a degree in engineering;)

  11. If you want to have a clean hit you could try vapor bonging if you look in the vaporizer section there was a recent post asking people what their setup looks like. I have yet to try it cause I just broke my RooR before I tried it and I am now looking at new glass. I also have heard great things about the LSV so you might look into that.
