Ok blades, I'm seeking the community's advice on this one.  Believe it or not, I've never made cannabutter before.  While researching online, I keep coming across contradictory information.

There seems to be a growing segment of the population that believe decarbing your marijuana before cooking it unleashes the full potential.

So, here is my plan.  I only want to use 4 grams of chronic in this recipe, so I figured I would set my oven for 235 F (to allow for some margin of error, as i'm afraid of vaporizing the herb in the oven) for 30-40 minutes or so.
My question is, should i cover the sheetpan with foil, or just leave it uncovered?

I will then grind up the decarbed weed and simmer it in a little over a half stick of butter for 40 minutes or so, before straining and cooling.

Does anyone see anything wrong with this, or have anything to add?

    Thanks in advance blades!

  2. I would definitely grind before decarbing. As for covering or not, i always cover, but im not sure how much real difference it makes, since 230 is well below the boiling point of thc. Everything else in your plan sounds gravy, have fun dude

  3. nevrmindedness has it right.  Grind, decarb, then cook with butter or oil.  If you decarb you won't have to cook it as long.  I would do an hour or two. Let us know how it goes.

  4. I've decarbed both ways, whole buds and ground. I've gotten excellent results from leaving the buds whole and crumbling them after decarb (if you don't have a grinder like the 1% in here lol) but they were little popcorn buds about the same size. Usually I grind it up before so you don't have to touch it after.

  5. this is what  works for me as far as decarbing goes. now i do have a shitty little oven that comes in the shitty little apartment we live in {old folks community and we take care of my pops, he's 93}. so if i can do this consistently, then so can you. here is what i do:

    1) make a foil pouch or packet. seam all edges with something like the opposite end of a butter knife. take foil, make a pouch that is several layers thick and is just big enough to leave a thin layer of bud in the packet you made. needs to be as close to air tight as possible. some of the good stuff will evaporate and escape out of the packet if you don't seal it up tight. with the bud ground up to a rough consistency, and has been added to the foil packet you made and then sealed up tight, now move on to the next step...

    2) make sure your oven is preheated to 220* F. place the foil packet inside and let it go for 20 mins. if it is wetter bud then it might take a little longer. what you want is for the bud to smell a little funky, it should have a light brown color to it now and it should be really dry. remember to let it sit and cool to room temp before you open the foil packet. some of the god stuff could escape out if it is still hot.

    3) make canna butter / canna oil. i use coconut oil my self. it works way better in my humble opinion. you can simmer the bud in the butter or oil for 25 to 30 mins. it shouldn't be bubbling or anything. it should just be really hot. if it starts to boil or you get the feeling it is then take it of of the heat and turn the heat down. i use a #2 on my shitty stove top. i start the 20 mins as i add the bud to the oil or butter, not when it gets hot.

    4) let the oil cool a bit so you can work with it and not burn your fucking hands off. then strain through cheese cloth, coffee filter or a few paper towels {brawny bitches!}. now the straining step is really a matter of preference. i don't. i leave all of the roughage in there. as a matter of fact, the bud usually just dissolves into the butter or oil when it cooks on the stove top. you could totally skip this step and just add the decarbed bud to the brownie or cookie mix. i do it all of the time and it works fucking great!

there you have it. simple and easy. it will make your house stink to high heaven {pun intended}. if you keep that decarbed bud on hand, just add a half gram to some hot coco and you will get so fucking blazed. i do that when i hurt real bad at night and cant sleep. just add the decarbed bud to the milk when you first set it on the stove top to warm. then as the milk warms it pulls all of the good stuff out and into the milk. i leave the bud in there and just drink it all down. works amazing, just fucking amazing.

one more thing to consider, LECITHIN. i have heard that lecithin will increase the potency o you might want to look it up and get the 411 on it. i make my edibles so strong as it is that i just stopped adding it to my recipes. i never noticed the difference and as far as i can tell, neither did anyone else. some people swear by it though so look into it.

    good luck! [IMG]

here's a pic of a half gram of chemdog i decarbed in a 10 gram batch. i followed the same instructions to get it as i wrote in this reply. notice the color and how it looks dried out and kind of schwaggy. fuck it even smells schwaggy as fuck. it is the heat that does that. hope this gets you in the ball park bro!

although the picture doesn't quite convey it, the bud is actually a little pile and not flat. when i store it, i just put it in a medicine bottle and then throw it in the freezer for the longer storage at a few weeks to a month and for anything i'll be devouring in the next few days to a week or so i put it in the veggy crisper in a wonder bread sammich holder so it stays dark and dry.

WOW!  That's a lot of work!  I would never bake it on a cookie sheet, nor would I just toss it in with flour (even if the Stoner Cookbook says you can).  Take your weed, grind it up in a coffee grinder (I use a little electric Cuisinart).  I use about an ounce or two of pure shake (sweet leaf, trim .. whatever you want to call it but not bud), and I wind up with about 1/2 to 1 cup of 'green flour' depending on how dry it is, how 'leafy' it is, etc.  I add that to pre-melted coconut oil (nuked for 30 seconds, will melt 3 cups at once) ... and cook for 2 hrs at 190F in my MB machine.

That's LOW in most crockpots, but test constantly with a candy thermometer until you know your appliance.  The trick on a stovetop: NEVER BOIL.  It's too hot!  Anything from 190 to 220 is perfect.  Use that candy thermometer! After two or three batches, you likely won't need it again.

I use a Magical Butter Machine; been using them for nearly three years.  They are GREAT for maintaining temp and time FOR you! Perfect for beginners, and makes life so easy for people who bake a lot!  It makes butter, oil, tincture, any combo you want AND even has a self clean cycle. Can't beat it, and there ARE discounts - just ask for one when you call in your order!  I've got a batch going now. It roars, stirs, and settles down to simmer, then does it again ... and again, and again.

In two hours, it'll stop.  Then I pour, without straining (what a mess!) into a big glass bowl.  It separates on its own in the fridge into a smooth, pale green coconut oil cannabutter circle on top, and underneath?  I call it my sludge.  I use it in baked sweet breads, like pumpkin, banana, etc.  I love to bake so I can guess at the right consistency - if in doubt, make a plain loaf of the bread, and then ... you'll know how it should feel/look when you use the sludge instead of so much water/oil.

For a quick and easy batch of cupcakes, use one box of cake mix and then, use the oil instead of both water and oil called for on the box!  If it's not the right consistency, then add a bit of water.  Makes 12 big 'knock ya out' cupcakes (eat half of one first, wait two hours THEN ... hit the batch you made without cannabis for the munchies!)  OR if you use it as a do: eat 1/2 of one cupcake 30 min before bed, and then, zero insomnia. Gone forever!  Or, for as long as I have sweet leaf or bud!  :)  And, I AM "Two Tok Terry" since high school; the stuff just slays me.  So, for ME, it's 1/2 of a cupcake, for others, they've enjoyed the whole thing.  I'm a wimp!

  9. This is a great and easy recipe for awesome edible cookie. You can optionally use coffee or not, your choice. I use a few teaspoons in entire batter, which helps you not get that "crash" from edibles. Always, don't forget to decarb bf making the butter.
    Gingerbread...
    1/2-3/4 C green butter....
    2/3 C Molasses...
    2 C flour..
1 tsp salt (I use less salt)...
    1/2 tsp. baking soda...
    2 tsp ginger...
    1 tsp cinnamon..
    3/4 C ground coffee...(optional, I use 2 teaspoons to avoid "crash feeling")

    Cream butter...
heat molases to a boil then cool and pour over butter.
Stir together dry ingredience now mix with butter molasses mix...
    chill 1 hr...
Roll out 1/4 " thick on floured board.
    Bake 375f for 5-7 mins.
    Enjoy!
