Calling East coast growers? Any luck with autoflower outside?

Last year was a disaster. I spent close to two hundred on seeds for my outdoor grow and all but two made it

Most of it was my fault as I was still learning. But I spent all year reading and I'm ready to go this summer

    My question:

Are there any east coast growers out there that grow auto flowers outside?

I live in the mid Atlantic region so on a typical day during the summer we can get about 10 -12 hours of light but where I'm located (in the suburbs) there are a lot of trees so my grow site only gets 8-9 hours until solstice.

    What Strains would you recommend?

What size yield should I expect if I follow the correct steps?

I'm currently looking into red dwarf and low Ryder as I have heard they grow the best outdoors but if you have any suggestions I'm all ears

    Thanks for looking

  3. Just out of curiosity, why are you set on autos? I grow indoors in a Mid-Atlantic State, but I know several people who have had great success with photo period plants. Autos will still work. I'm just wondering why you'd want to do that.

  4. Great question

Well I think it's too late to start a regular plant.

  5. Auto's will do fine as long as you get them planted ASAP.

Low ryder is good. Have heard promising things about AK 47.

Just remember that with auto's, less is more. Meaning just let them do their thing with a minimum of attention. Nutes should be given lightly since they bloom FAST, and too much N can really screw with a flowering auto.

No trimming, topping, or fimming either.

  6. Makes sense to me. I grew a White Cheese and a Blueberry Domina auto that were both great, but it was inside. You'll be fine. Like the above poster said though, don't top, fim, or anything like that. I had huge success with LST'ing though. Best of luck to you.

  7. I agree let THEM BE.

  8. Any new comers

  9. Meh, I've grown some outdoors. Aside from having weed to smoke way earlier, unless you're planting say.... 50-100 not really worth it IMO. I've started plants late June and had them get maybe 3-4' tall at least.

  10. I started last month you have time and im on the east cost. I am also growing autos but starin that should be sucessfuloutdoors .

  15. I am a 1st time grower of autos in containers on my deck also in mid-atlantic region. I did little to no research before I germinated my seeds: 3 barneys farm little cheese and 3 royal queen diesel auto. I transplanted my seedlings bout 10 days after germination into 2 gallon pots (on June 13). Lesson #1 = autos do not like to be transplanted, next year I will direct seed into the pots they will finish in. One of the LC is 24 inches, I topped it and was rewarded with some very nice branching, It is now the end of week 7 and it has been flowering for bout 2 weeks. I am using General Organics Grow Box, comes with 8 different nutes. Using only distilled water to mix nutes and for all watering needs. All the other plants are also flowering but are lagging behind the 24 inch LC. I am learning a lot the 1st time out.

Approaching the end of the 9th week since placing my 6 seedlings into 2 gallon pots.

Of the 3 auto diesel 1 has died after transplanting it into my veggie garden; transplanting twice was the kiss of death IMO. The 2 remaining auto diesels are like bonsai plants, about 7 inches tall and in full flower. The yield from these 2 will be miniscule but the lessons learned were many!

Of the 3 little cheese one is about 25 inches tall with about 18-20 gorgeous buds in full flower, getting close to harvest time. The top buds are the biggest so, QUESTION: should I harvest from the top and then give the under-buds additional time to grow prior to cutting them? I think this one is more productive because I topped it once. Also, the large fan leaves on the bottom began to yellow and die off about 10 days ago. I think the explosive flowering is causing this die-off, ANY OPINIONS out there?

The other 2 little cheese are 14 and 9 inches respectively. Neither of these were topped so the production is not as prolific; they are also in full flower. I am really trying to determine the right time to harvest, the trichomes appear to be clear to some milky, I believe I am very close to harvest time.

HEY, anyone out there. Looks like harvest time this weekend for the little cheese, almost all the fan leaves have yellowed and died and the buds are dense and fragrant. In the sun you a can see the resin on the trichomes. Any suggestions re: my question posed above?
