Purging Questions/Tips

  1. Hey GC,
I'm recently new to making my own BHO, as I've only made about 10 runs so far.  Every time I try to make stable shatter it always turns to a sticky waxy texture.  I'm obviously doing something wrong but just not sure what it is.  I've done so much research and can't seem to see where I'm messing up.  Heres what I usually do...
I first grind up my bud/trim and put it in the extraction tube and freeze it over night.  I then put a griddle turned on with a large pyrex dish with water in it heated no hotter then 100*F.  I then put a smaller pyrex dish in the larger pyrex.  I then open blast in the pyrex dish.  I let the oil then sit for about 20-30 minutes in the hot water bath until the bubbles stop popping.  I then poor what i can to avoid agitating my oil directly onto parchment paper, and then i scrape the rest up.  I let it then sit in the vac oven for 30 minutes at 90*F and then I pull a full cac to -29.5HGin.  I keep the full vac for about 24-48 hours then ill take my oil out, and flip the slab, and then pull a full vac again and leave it in for an addition 24-48 hours.  Every time I do this it comes out as very sticky wax, doesn't even look like shatter.
Am I agitating my product too much?  How many times do you allow pressure in and out of your vac (i've heard people only doing 1 full vac, then i heard people allowing pressure in and out for 2-3 full vacs within the first 2 hours they put their product in the vac? Any tips would help!
    Thanks fam!

  2. If you pack tight you don't need to grind or freeze if it's dry. You may be getting unwanted shit in the end product by grinding it.

  3. read some BHO threads dude, please.

Dont grind trim, EVER. trim already has a greater surface area than nugs, you'll only be extracting more fats/waxes that way.

Dont blast onto a griddle! Keep all that shit away from where you're blasting unless you wanna end up with a problem down the road.

you're only flipping once every 24-48hr? try and flip more or go longer. no need to go releasing pressure and fucking with it, just get your muffin under control and let it rock.

  4. I like to let my first pull go for close to 24 hours before I flip. Then I try to flip once in the morning and once in the evening, keeping the times that each side is exposed close to equal. I probably flip 6-8 times throughout the purge.

  5. Thank you so much for the advice.

Thank you so much for the tips. I've read countless forums on this website. I dont blast straight on a griddle, I leave a large pyrex with water on a griddle at low temp (under 100) then I put a smaller pyrex in that dish and then blast.  Should I blast into the smaller dish then when I'm done blasting put the smaller pyrex dish in the larger pyrex to avoid any problems? I'll leave my wax in for 24 hours then i attempt to flip the slab.  The wax is never a stable shatter material, so flipping the slab is a real mess and the slab looks bad after.  Is there a step im doing that is causing my material to be very sticky wax? I've been trying to get more stable shatter.  I leave my material in low temps (no higher then 95-100). Thanks.

  6. yes I know you blast onto pyrex, but its sitting on a griddle which is the problem. just use warm water.

if its too sappy to flip, have a cookie sheet in your freezer and pull it out to flip your slab on. Sandwich it between two sheets of parchment, put the side you want to remove on the cookie sheet and let it chill for like 30 seconds, flip it over and peel it off. shouldnt be a mess.

for the most part, its dependent on the material

Hmm. Im not expert but i usually come out with stable pull snap and can handle and touch. I usually run full vac for about 40 plus hours at about 95 to 100 degrees. Ive read to release and pull vac but i dont i just let it pull vac whole time and my stuff comes out to my liking. I also use thomas thermal heating and i just blast at 95 degrees and let it do its thing till bubbles are done then i scrape it on PP then in vac. I usually purge for 20 hours then i flip it but by then its stable enough for me touch it and flip it. If its not ill use PP put on top flip it and take of PP with quick swipe.

  8. Can me flipping it only once a day be a problem even tho I'm doing a 36 hour purge or do you think that should be good?

  9. Honestly I flip more than that usually but thats depending on its consistency. Really stable shatter usually takes longer in between flips cause it takes longer for those bubbles to settle. Basically once theres no more bubbles or just very few, you can flip it. no time restrictions.

  10. Makes since how many times should I burp it between flips?

  11. none

  12. So no releasing my vac just keep it at the highest vac it can hold , until there's no reaction then flip?

  13. I see your doing nothing to dewax, I blast into a chilled mason jar, with chilled tane and let it sit in an ice bath till all that white shit separates out then I filter and start to purge.

  14. I mentioned how I dewax on a separate thread I pretty much do the same thing you do a blast into a chilled mason jar surrounded my dry ice and ISO and let it sit for 2-3 hours then strain it through coffe filters into another mason jar from there I pour it all into a Pyrex dish and then set it into the hot water bath for 30-60 mins then I scrape and spread thin on the PP and pull to full vac at 90-110f I have a digital heat pad from best value vacs I'm just trying to get a better stability but it sounds like it's the old trim that's causing the unstable dark oil

Correct, theres no need at all to 'burp' your chamber. I always scratch my head when I see people do that. the only time its necessary to do that is after a freshly scraped slab, you just need to control the muffin until it can be left to be a full vac.

just pull it out when you see only a couple bubbles left and flip it, let it sit in the chamber to warm up for 10 minutes before running the vac again.

When I muffin it up in the beginning do I leave it at full vac at the huge muffin or should I keep "burping" it until it's somewhat flat?

And if I dehydrate my herbs for a long time would that be helping or hurting me say I left it dehydrating over night so 8-10 hours , "my dehydrator has a fan setting so no heat is conducted"

Wish there was a way you can just send a gram through this that way you can feel and taste what's popping out the ovens the fresher material is off the hook on the enail

  17. Well the only reason you burp at that point is to keep your muffin from hitting the side of your vac chamber and making a mess, if you're able to just run the vac and the muffin doesnt get out of control then thats fine. It will settle on its own, its best to forget about it for a while cause if you go checking it every 10 minutes its not gonna look like its doing anything and you're gonna want to start messing with it.

no thats fine, In my experience drier material makes better results(unless we're talking about fresh frozen, different ball park lol)

E-nail is the best way to savor the flavor! There's no such thing as 'waste it to taste it' with an e-nail, just keep hittin that shit! hahaha

Yes sir you gotta waist it to taste it but in this case we just keep on ripping it lol

Gonna skip on the burps do nug run in am got my Büchner funnel in the mail so I'm pretty amped

Third time giving these guys the opportunity to fix this and still sending me messed up chambers

is there any other way I can use my smaller one with my Büchner funnel I feel as its to small to pump out all the fluids with one pull

  19. How small is your other chamber and how big is your next run? My 3 gallon chamber was enough to vacuum about 1200ml of fluid with plenty of vac leftover.

Whats wrong with that chamber? is that a 10gal?

  20. It's a 15 gallon it seems to be releasing air from the chamber very slowly and tomorrows run is gonna be some chiezel popcorn nug with shake two and a half pounds im gonna try and only use 1 case of butane for this whole extraction as my tubes are super huge I'm gonna cut out my smaller tubes and use the dry ice jacket technique on my biggest tubes and hope for the best
