Topping Clones

Discussion in 'Plant Training' started by jwhardy21, Jun 5, 2015.

  1. Hi, I bought a clone yesterday that's fully rooted in a 4x4 rockwool cube, the roots are popping out the bottom. It is 10 inches tall. I transplanted it 24 hours ago into a 3 gallon container of 50/50 Happy Frog and Pro-Mix HP. It's vegging under 300 watts of HPS. My question is, when can I top it safely? Now? Also, how far down can I top it? Ideally I want to top it at about 6 inches. Thanks!

  2. its so lil why do you want to top it

  3. It's not any smaller than any of my seedlings I top. I just want the auxins to branch out rather than just the top shoot like many people. Can you answer my question?

  4. its so lanky its hard to find a spot that has two grow tips caddy corner to each other maybe really low by the base is there a tip on each side you can top it pretty short if you want but smaller plants means barely any bud

  5. Give it a few days, it looks stressed and hungry you don't want it to herm.

  7. my clones are 6 weeks old and I never did figure out how to top them.

The alternating node pattern of clones makes topping much lass straight forward. Well, fr me atleast.

Good luck. Post pics if you top so I can learn from your success/mistake.

  8. 20150804_1128132.jpg There she is, i vegged her for 40 days, now she is 3 weeks and 6 days into flower. I topped this plant twice, the second time I cut multiple branches, I forget how many exactly, though. It doesn't seem to matter that the nodes are asymmetrical because when a branch is cut, the lower branch will, for the most part, stretch so it is about even with the other branches on the canopy.

  9. Sorry the picture is upside-down, I don't know what that's about haha. But could someone help me figure out why the fan leaves are drooping slightly, yellowing with a pinkish/reddish hue?

    Grow setup:
    3 gallon pots
50/50 Happy Frog and Pro-Mix HP
Veg: 2 x 150 watt HPS and oscillating fan, 2.7'x2.7'x5.25' tent
Flower: 400 watt HPS ~ 190 CFM carbon filter/exhaust, 100 CFM booster fan intake, 2 small fans
I have Heavy-16 Veg and Bud parts A and B, and samples of Heavy Roots, Foliar, Finish, Prime, and Fire nutrients as well as Grandma's Molasses
    4'x4'x6.5' tent
Strain: Kandy Kush - dispensary cloned in a peat plug stuck in a 4x4 rockwool cube prior to my transplant into 3 gallon containers, 40 days vegetative growth, 27th day since first stigmas appeared
    Flaws in my grow:
    -Heat: 86-90 degrees avg.
    -No strong, oscillating fan
-Humidity: 26-51% (usually lower during light hours)
-Carbon filter/fan at the bottom of the tent opposed to hanging from the top
-Low amount of runoff when watered
    My Hypothesis:
I can only think it could be salt build-up in the soil, because after my low runoff water my next big problem is obviously the high heat in my tent, but that shouldn't cause the symptoms you can see in my photo.
