Butane Pumps ?

  1. what kind of CLS is that?? is that a pump/compressor off a refrigerator or something? plastic in your collection vessel??
     
    very confused, could you tell me about your system?

    I built the machine myself, yes the pump is made by copeland ( emmerson ) , I think the cylinder head is made by someone else, it very differnt from the normal refer compressors I have seen. its speficlly for flamable gas.
     
    It's a real pain in the ass to collect the oil from the colection vessel, so I have a friend make up some butane resistant bags that I place in my tank, when the reaction is finished, I just disasemble the clamp and pull out the bag, no clean up all the oil is in the bag...simple
     
    As far as my machine, it can hold aproximatly 10 gallons of material, the recovery vessle is aprox 5 gallons in size, and the 2 big horizontal cans contain replaceable water asorbition and carbon filters.

  3. you must not have tried very hard at scraping because its not very hard to collect. what is the plastic bag made from?
     
    do you know what the insides of the pump is made of? thats also important cause there could be materials inside the pump that are not butane compatible.

    oil colection is time consumming, the plastic bag is quick
     
    Well I'm not going to release what the recipe is for the bag, I can tell you that the chemicals used to make the bag do not show up in the HPLC results from the oil, currently I'm trying to get the bags to last longer than 1 run, but at 0.80 cents each it's really not that big of a cost.
     
    The pump is sold ( not in this country ) as a butane / propane pump. But to answer your question, I do not know what the materials are inside the pump and im gonna assume that the parts inside are ok with butane / propane because it's sold that way. I can tell you that the oil to lubricate the motor and internal parts is food grade glycerin lubricant.

    also, just because the pump is sold for hydrocarbons like butane/propane does not mean its safe to make medicine with. What industry is that pump for? like for a refrigerator? when they say its butane safe that just means its sparkless so it wont blow up. That pump is not designed for making meds so there very well could be things like copper/brass etc. inside. I would look into the make/model and find out. thats a big reason why most people go passive.

    I guess I do not understand on the make up of the parts in the machine, I have every batch of oil tested for everything under the sun, including heavy metals and I never see anything more than 0.000001 PPB and thats a B for Billion.
     
    where I live, the air outside contains 0.0001 PPM of copper.
     
    I guess their is a chance if you don't filter your solvent corectly it could become acidic and possibly cause problems and react with the internal metal pieces causing contamination.
     
    and the motor is a electromagnet motor, no armature or brushes = no sparks

  8. for butane safe pumps I see people using Haskel's, Caresaver's, CMEP, CPS makes the TRS-21 which is sparkless.
     
  9. So from what Im reading online people are still having problems with leakage and bho getting into pump and causing problems?
    Is this problem still happening ?
