I have googled, I have read university studies and i still don't understand exactly why we use nutrients? Can anyone explain it to me simply? I understand what the nutrients do, but why do they need them if they get there energy from the sun/light? edit- i think im onto something: "Because Plants don't eat for a living, and can't count on a supply of things like vitamins, plants tend to be much more self sufficient. With few exceptions, plants are able to manufacture all the complex compounds they need to survive, using energy from sunlight. They do however need basic raw materials in order to make these chemicals, in the form of the elements carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and phosphorus. They use these elements to make more complex compounds like carbohydrates, proteins, and fatty acids. (Now, I mentioned "amino acids" earlier; these are the basic units of proteins, as proteins are made of long chains of amino acids. nitrogen is required to make ALL amino acids and proteins.) " \nThis adds to the posts above me. \nSo to summarize: \n Plants use light and carbon dioxide to make chemicals and with the help of basic elements (NPK ect) it then converts the chemicals made by photosynthesis to usable food ( sugars) \n\nAm i understanding this correctly? I'm sure im not the only one here who didn't understand all of this, if nothing else i hope this helps someone else out there understand (assuming im right ......lol) \nfuking science, not even once
Are you srs? Plants need nutrients because photosynthesis demands them. (The way plants make there own food) it can't grow without the needed nutrients
So humans get the energy from calories (food), and the nutrients are in the food (well suppose to be lol) where plants obviously get there energy from light, but get there nutrients from water soluble nutrients via roots So they turn light and carbon dioxide into energy (photosynthesis) in conjunction with water and nutrients from the roots to sustain the plant. Essentially making the plants growth rate dictated by the amount of light assuming nutrient levels re adequate? If thats the case why do people insist on feeding plants so heavily? Am i thinking about this the right way? I hate doing something and not knowing the very basics of how it all works!
Yes but why do they demand them? So the nutrients are not making the plant grow, they are supporting the photosynthesis process? in turn which makes the plant grow?
I feel like I'm getting trolled. Did you miss out a couple years of high school bio? Or were you just stoned for all of it.
I promise im not trolling you. I made this thread in the noob section for a reason. if the plant is turning light in sugars, why isnt the plant eating the sugars for food? or is it doing exactly that? Don't you worry i feel very stupid for making such a thread when i have grown for years, but i still don't understand the very basics of how plants live/grow/eat ect.
lol it's all good I had a feeling your name is u mad. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=joZ1EsA5_NY watch this
Maybe I'm too stupid, but while that video explains the photosynthesis side of things well, i dont see where they explain the importance of nutrients?
the sun just gives plants the energy to make use of available nutrients the nutrients, be it organic or synthetic, allow the plants to reach their maximum potential all life requires sustenance
So the more light available, the more nutrients the plants can use, hence why plants under a 600w will use more nutrient vs a plant under a 100cfl ?
