disappointed in edibles, is it just me?

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by tclark13, May 27, 2015.

  1. I am a daily smoker with a fairly high tolerance that just tried brownies for the first time yesterday. I watched them get made with some very bright green pot butter by some old hippie parents of my friend who claim to make them fairly often. So I assume they knew what they were doing. I choked down one, tasted horrible. After an hour or so I got SO tired and heavy, like beyond sleepy, could do nothing but lay there and fall asleep for hours. I woke up feeling groggy but normal. At no point did I ever feel stoned though. No similarities at all with how I feel when I smoke to get high. I just got really tired and went to sleep. Is that supposed to be how edibles feel? Did I take too much? Not enough? Im feeling disappointed by the experience and want to know if that is normal. Thanks!

You should try making edibles using the excellent recipes here at Grasscity. If you make your own, then you can calibrate the dosage and effects exactly the way YOU like it (as opposed to the way some random old hippie likes it). [IMG]

  3. in my honest opinion, i think you ate too much and greened out. the first time i ever ate an edible, i was told to only eat half, but after a few minutes i decided i didnt want to wait and ate the rest. Two hours later and it was hitting me, harder and harder with each minute. after about 30 minutes i felt like my head was spinning, and without warning, i threw up all over myself. never again will i not heed a warning about edibles!

Next time, take half of what you took this time, and drink some coffee, or take it early on in the day. if after two hours you dont feel much, eat the other half, or a full one. I personally like taking half of my edibles, then about 45 minutes to an hour later i take the rest. To me it seems to be a better come up and i stay a bit higher before coming down.

Good luck next time, edibles are pretty awesome once you find out how it affects you, and how much you should take to get where you want to be [IMG] [IMG]

It's a very slow and groggy feeling for me too.
I have a ridiculous high tolerance, but edibles still get me.
Most of the time it feels like I'm just fighting off the want to go to sleep, but eventually the high creeps up and before I know it I'm in the middle of usually doing something stupid thinking "holy shit the edible just kicked in"

To answer your question more specifically... edibles are scientifically proven to be a "different" high than smoking. When you eat edibles, your liver converts the THC-9 into THC-11, which has a slightly different effect (and longer duration). But when you smoke, it does not go through your liver (obviously).

For most people, edibles are similar effect to smoking, but gradual onset and longer lasting. Some people, though, seem to have a very different reaction. I have heard of people who have high tolerance for smoking but low tolerance for edibles, or the opposite, people who enjoy smoking but don't feel any effects at all from edibles. It must have something to do with individual body chemistry, I don't know.

  6. Thanks for the opinions, guys. I think I am going to try to make my own this weekend using some recipes from here that way I can use the quality I want and control it more. In the meantime I was sent home with several extra brownies and got no plans tonight so I'm just going to eat a half of one every hour or so until I either get high or go to sleep again. Maybe something different will happen this time. At least I can't say I didn't try lol.

  7. It always depends on the dosage, but to me it also varies on what kin of edibles. Brownies and cookies usually do me in fairly easy, but I've tried several gummies, lollipops, and a few other goodies I can't remember that had virtually no effect no matter how many I ate... So I guess it's different for everyone, and then there's just so many factors to take in...

  8.
Gummies and lollipops don't have much fat content, that is probably the difference I would imagine.

  9. I'm still experimenting with edibles and have had mixed results.
My firecrackers sometimes hit me pretty nice after 45 minutes and I then enjoy a couple hours of pure indica bliss before dropping into bed for some nice sleep. Othertimes they barely effect me and just produce a mild body buzz even though I try to dose consistently.
Next time I'll try decarbing the weed first before baking. Maybe that will help.

  10. If you didn't get high it may be due to you not having an empty stomach. Nex time try and eat a brownie for breakfast. Edibles WILL get your ripped. Blame yourself or whatever on your end was the cause for you not getting high, not edibles in general. I can give you edibles that will make you wish you weren't so high.
