Hey there guys n gals, thanks for taking the time to read this. I need some assistance/advice on the best way to approach this situation. I will explain what I am going to do and my reasoning behind it. I have some experience in growing but not what I would consider a level needed for a grow on this scale, so any feedback/advice is much appreciated. I would like to set up a grow across 2 rooms and fit as many plants as possible in. The rooms are roughly 4.8 metres by 3.5 metres and I should be able to fit six 120 x 120 x 240 cm tents in each room comfortably. I want to use tents to conceal the smell/light as it is in a block of apartments and I do not wish to disturb anyone or attract attention. This is quite pricey but I couldnt think of another way without altering the apartment too much (drilling holes/screwing walls). Is there any way to bypass the use of tents without sacrificing discretion? If its going to smell Id rather spend the extra money. I want to put 6-8 plants in each tent and put six tents in both rooms making a total of 12 tents and roughly 96 plants. Like I said I am a new grower but time is of the essence at the moment and I wont have to space for long so I want to take advantage while I have it. I am inclined to use a hydroponic ebb/flow system and put the plants on a drip feed timer. I will be growing Amnesia Haze Autoflower Feminized . I also am thinking of using CFL instead of HPS/MH because of heat emissions in the tent and it is a lot more efficient with power (It wont be painfully obvious when someone looks at the electricity meter as 12 600watt HPS I imagine uses alot of power). I was going to purchase equipment on Thursday but just wanted to see what anyone else would do if they had this space in my situation. Remember guys discretion is key for this one and as many plants as possible. Thank you ;)

  2. For personal use I guess

  3. ^Yeah of course my friend

  4. You'll need some major league carbon filtration/ventilation.

  5. Good luck man

@shemp99 I plan to buy and install a high quality carbon filter for each tent ..Im considering linking them all with ducting but that might get mighty complicated lol!

  7. 12 high volume fans are going to make a lot of noise.

@Shemp99 Maybe I can soundproof the room...they are in the bedrooms at the back of the apartment so from the front door if you can hear it it would be pretty loud. But yeah maybe I can line the door/walls with some sort of soundproofing material, any suggestions? Thanks bro

  9. Im new to this forum..is there a reason why this thread has 60 views and only 2 replies?...am I doing something wrong? LOL I probably wrote too much

  10. I cannot offer any advice but I can wish you luck. If you truly have no or very little experience growing it is going to be a shit ton of work to care for that many plants at the same time by yourself. I am a newbie and 4 plants can get a little overwhelming in times of trouble.

I have had some experiences before but unfortunately due to "unforeseen circumstances" they never made it to harvest. So I would still say I need to get up to scratch lol..I realise the magnitude of growing on this scale and the work/manpower and hours it will require which I have available. It might sound laughable but I'm going to give it my best shot, like I said there is only enough time to have one crack at it so I might aswell make it a good one. I will keep you guys posted. Any more feedback is still welcome would b appreciated.

You're considering using cfls??? You're very mistaken on CFLs. A single 600 watt hid light is going to blow 600 actual watts of CFLs so far out of the water it wouldn't be funny. The yeild will be terrible with the cfls and since your still using the same amount of watts its going to cost just as much. So same amount of money to grow less bud. Plus the heat will not be easier to control. A lot of the energy in CFLs is wasted in heat. When you hear of people using CFLs to help lower tempts, its because they're going with a smaller light set up. Say like sticking a couple CFLs in a small cupboard as opposed to a larger hid light. But your way way out of CFLs league. I never thought I would see someone contemplating the options between twelve 600 watt hid lights and CFLs. People might not be answering your thread because its kind of hard to take it seriously when that's your question. Sounds like you have a lot of reading to do

Hey @killset thanks for the reply man, I get what you are saying. From my understanding the 2 lights could have the same wattage but due to the inductor needed to kickstart HPS lights it draws more current from the circuit therefore increasing the power factor and it would cost more. Ive also read that HPS uses almost all its full potential IE 580 out of 600watts will actually be used and CFL only draws half the actual wattage from the circuit. My main concern with the HPS was the huge bills and the heat, but Ive heard the CFL yields tend to be quite s***ty. I will do the exact power factor calculations and find out what is more cost effective in the long run. Yes I do have alot of reading to do so its lucky Im a fast learner. We all start somewhere, just because I dont know everything to begin with doesnt mean I shouldn't attempt it, its a learning curve. This is my first large scale grow and if it doesnt go to plan cest la vie at least I know what could have been. Well they should take it seriously because they were in the same position at some stage, how would they have acquired the knowledge without asking otherwise. After reading your comments however I am more inclined to attempt HPS, I wasnt 100% on it which is why I needed assistance. I have seen beautiful CFL/LED grows on youtube before and that was more along the lines of what I was trying to recreate but seeing as HPS has more lumens per watt/penetrates the leaves more its obviously the more sensible choice. I was just concerned about costs/heat that is all. I'm assuming I will have to put an AC unit in all 12 tents to regulate temperature as well as carbon filters thermometers and humidifiers/readers which I am quite p*ssed about as it all pretty expensive. Maybe someone can suggest a way around buying so much equipment without sacrificing their advantages. Any more replies appreciated.

Do what you want but your wasting you're time considering CFLs for 96 plants, ask anyone with experience. Even a hardcore cfl grower would say it would be time to upgrade on a grow of the scale. Mh/hps cost a couple pennies more to start but when the yeild is a shit ton more its way worth it. Youre not talking about some little personal grow in a closet, look around and find any grow of 96 plants ran by cfl. Its going to be very few and hard to find. It would be a huge waste to run CFLs as a primary light source with what you're talking about. The penetration of CFLs is terrible, especially compared to a real grow light. LEDs is another story. You didn't mention them. By the way I wasn't busting on you for needing to read up. It was just obvious you got alot of researching, especially for a larger grow on your 1st try is all. Don't be so sensitive.

  15. Thanks man, I appreciate the advice. I will run HPS and find the best way forward from there. I won't be so sensitive next time ;)
