Any idea how strong a 100mg cannabutter edible would be?...

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by SmilaxTheMan, May 24, 2015.

  1. I realise that this may be a stupid question because I don't have the details on things I've tried before but I'm curious still. I have a pot nanaimo bar (type of chocolate treat) that is labeled as having 100mg of cannabutter. I'm new to pot in general however I actually started with edibles. I bought and ate a full pot brownie from my dispensary as my first weed experience. Since then I've had brownies a couple of times and a shatter chocolate truffles. The chocolate truffle was labeled as having 50mg of something in it, I can't remember if it was 50mg of shatter or some other product, I want to say it was labeled as OBC or something like that. I believe the pot brownies I had were 50mg ones but I think that's 50mg of THC. The guy who sold me this nanaimo bar at the dispensary said that these are less strong than the edibles however this is labeled as having 100mg of cannabutter. Any idea how much THC that would likely equate to? How high would you likely get on that compared to your average dispensary brownie which I've now tried several times? I also plan on calling the dispensary again before trying it. Just curious if anyone could potentially shed any light. Thanks!

  2. In order to gauge home thc is in the butter you'd have to to make it yourself, no telling wether it was made with trim or buds. Cheers

Ahh just found it. The shatter chocolate had 50mg of BHO in it. Also called the dispensary just now and they confirmed that the Nanaimo Bar should be roughly equivalent to the brownies I've been having. In other words, fun trip :D

  4. How did it go mate? you eat it, yet.

  5.
Tomorrow mate :p I set aside 1 day a week when I'm off to get baked. I think of it as my weekly vacation :p If I remember I'll post how it went. If... I rememer lol...

  6. Todays the day.  Have fun.

I like the idea of a mini vacation once a week.

Aaaaannd holy shit that was sickeningly SWEET! Nanaimo Bar's always are but this was nuts, cream and chocolate and gram cracker, that was like a whole chocolate cream cake condensed into one bar. Too sweet. And it didn't hide the taste of the weed as well as other things I've had, tasted a bit like someone substituted yard trimmings for one of the ingredients lol.

So yeah as far as a high goes this was kind of disappointing compared to the other edibles I've had :-( Only short periods of feeling great and euphoric and very little if any psychedelic sides to it. It's mostly a strong but good feeling body sedation feeling and even that was better with the others. The other edibles I've had had also had more psychedelic sides to them which this one had very very little of. I know you don't do edibles for the psychedelic sides but I appreciated the aspects that those other experiences DID have. Pretty sure next time I'm going to go back to trying the herb itself.

Question. Could the fact that I had this sucker in the fridge for 3 weeks before I had it have any potential effect? I didn't think shelf life would make much of a difference, not that kind of time anyway. But then I'm a n00b.

  9. Sorry to hear it. I don't think the potency will degrade much during a few weeks in the fridge but I'm not sure.

Usually if I'm buying edibles I'll get the ones with the most professional packaging. They are likely to be consistent. The homemade ones are hit and miss IME.

This was from a dispensary as have all the cannabis experiences I've tried so far been from. I was told actually that this might be slightly less potent than the brownies I had before, I'd say much less so. Edibles at dispensaries are likely going to be capped at a more reasonable level anyway they probably don't want too blow their customers out of the water. Although when I called they said they now had double dose brownies. I think edibles in general are hard to perfect in terms of consistency whether home made or dispensary, it's just that home made will probably vary even more so. The best experiences I've had so far have been from smoking it and the shatter chocolate I had last time. Of course I'm still very much a cannabis n00b.

  11. get your bud, grind it to roughage. put in a foil packet and decarb 220* 20 to 30 minutes. you want the bud dried a bit when it is done and slightly browner. you'll know it when you see and feel of it. put a .5 gram to 1 gram into 1 cup of milk and lightly simmer until hot! never boil milk yuck!

add a bit of chocolate {a squirt of coco syrup followed by 1 square milk chocolate, 1 square of dark chocolate and 1 square of caramel} and then stir and let sit for a few mins and stir again. drink and get fucking hammered!! i mean fucking hammered!!!!! this is my go to source for pain issues in the middle of the night. as a matter of fact, i have anywhere from 2 to 5 grams of decarbed bud in the freezer for just such an occasion.

you can actually see the oils and fats coming out of the bud as it slowly simmers. th milk will turn a little greenish brown as well. no i don't strain the bud out and sometimes depending on how fine i ground it, it can just dissolve into the milk. it does taste a bit "perfumie" like bud however it isn't bad at all! it takes about 45 mins to start feeling the effect and sometimes it can take longer.

i myself find edibles to be overwhelming. they have this heavy narco effect to me. to much almost. like i am so fucking heavy and my mind is soooo slow. so i do them strictly at night. i sleep like a baby when i use this concoction. [IMG]

Thanks for the recipe, I'll keep this in mind :D I've never tried making any of my own edibles though and would have to be careful I feel being so new. Don't want to go overboard and get way too fucking stoned, which can be easy with edibles. Though probably in that case I'd just sleep it off lol.

Thanks for the article. Yeah I'm not surprised actually. Most dispensaries are small operations, though Vancouver has a LOT of them now!, not big businesses so true quality control and consistency isn't a thing really [IMG]

  14. i give my pops, who turned 93 yesterday, .1 gram of decarbed bud in his sleepy time tea. out like a light for at least 4 hours sometimes the entire night. i do vape with him too but the edibles work really well when he cant sleep due to hurting and general irritability.. kind of like drugging little kids with children's cold medicine to get them sleeping all night lol!!

at .1 gram of decarbed bud, which isn't very much at all really, is more then enough for him. other wise he gets waaay to fucked up and feels worse in some ways. so ya man....edibles need to taken with a word of caution and realize less is more at first. it can take upwards of 2 hours in some cases before you are completely baked {pun intended} even though most edibles peak in an hour or so.

  15.
You know I don't know if I just have a really slow digestive system or what but for me it actually takes between 2 and 4 hours for edibles to kick in. Usually on the upper end of that, 4+ hours!

  16. it is good you know that about yourself. last thing you want is to be eating magic brownies or something and have 5 when you should have been patient and had 1 [IMG]

  17. 0.1g of kind bud in a properly-made edible is a good mild/bedtime dose for me, just like ajroxit's pops.

Anyway, the crux of the debate is this: the ONLY thing that "contains 100mg of cannabutter" tells you is that the edible will be roughly twice as strong as another edible made by the same person on the same day with the same ingredients containing only 50mg of cannabutter. And half as strong as a 200mg cannabutter edible from the same batch.

What you want to see on an edible packaging is the mg of THC, because that actually means something. But of course studies have show that these labels can be inaccurate.

Hence my recommendation to make your own edibles. The "how do I find the right dosage?" thing is really much easier than people think. Just grind up the amount of weed you normally smoke, and then multiply by the number of brownies, cookies, or servings in the batch. If there is significantly less herb per brownie than you usually smoke, then you will probably think the brownies are too weak for your tolerance, and if there is way more herb per brownie than you are comfortable smoking, then you are also at risk of being uncomfortably high from the edible.

Some people are exceptions with extremely high or low edibles tolerance relative to their smoking tolerance, but my guidelines above should at least point you in the right direction. To recap, a safe and Puddleglum-recommended beginner dose is the amount of herb you usually pack in a bowl and smoke to your head, or 0.1g, whichever is less. Then if you are not satisfied, you gradually adjust the dosage with each successive batch until you are locked in on the perfect amount.

Others will tell you to eat 0.5g or even a whopping 1g as your first edibles experience, but I have heard of beginners having bad experiences at that dosage. Remember that you can always eat more, but the only way to eat less once you've already taken it is to vomit--not fun! The key question to enjoying edibles is not "what is the maximum I can safely eat?" but rather "what is the minimum that will get me to the desired effect?" Asking that question is how you conserve your herb, keep your tolerance from rocketing sky-high, and avoid unpleasant "greening out" type experiences. :)

A final note is that there are some extremely inefficient ways to make MJ edibles. (For example, "put the herb in your mouth and chew it" or "mix it with peanut butter" or "put the unprocessed herb directly into the brownie mix.") People who try these methods will, of course, need much more herb to get the same effects as someone following a scientific/medical recipe (like BadKat Smiles) using less herb. So if you run across someone who says "oh yeah, I eat 5g at a time, it's great! anyone who eats less than a gram is a moron!" then be sure to carefully read their recipe, and I'll bet you see they are eating more than they need to because they are not following proper kitchen techniques. ;)

  18.
Thanks for the info man! Yeah I'm not surprised by any of this actually. I'm actually going to take a break from edibles most likely and try smoking more weed as I wish to experience and explore more of that high for now. But I'm sure I'll come back to edibles and make my own, carefully, later :)

  19. i read most of that article and looked around over there. goood stuff man!

i read that DR. J's products that were supposed to be in the range of 100mg of activated THC were tested at....holy shit this is crazy....2 to 5 mg.the products were labeled as having 100mg of activated THC. other brands were far more potent with what seemed like most being close to the target 100mg dose by being slightly over that.

i would be fucking pissed if i bought such a thing and nothing happened. those edibles they sell are fucking spendy too! ghetto enterprises that are out to do nothing but make a fucking dollar before they get caught.
