What LED setup for a 5x5 hydro grow?

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by m1kesta, May 23, 2015.

  1. I'm looking to get a few 4x4 or 5x5 tents with a personal goal to yield at least 1lb/tent with a LED setup in each tent and hydro. This will be for an OG strain, if that matters.

I've been looking at the following LED grow lights, not sure if these are any good or what else I should consider.

    LED lights I've been considering:
    Spectrum King Series 400
    Kind K3 L600
    Diamond XML 350

Are there any other lights I should consider? And more importantly, how many watts will I need for my goal?

Of those, the only one worth considering is the Advanced, but no way it's effectively covering more than 2 x 2

Check out Amare Technologies, they actually makes panels specifically for cannabis

As to a 5 x 5 space, keep in mind you will not have much useful light around the perimeter. Focus on the remaining 4 x 4, which probably needs 3-4 panels like Solar Spec 150s

  3. Just want to point out the XML 350 is good for more than 2x2 coverage.

  4. Do you have much experience with the solarspec 350 eclipse? What sort of footprint does it have or is it effectively just a 260 with the added uv

Xml 350 is rated for 4x4 so that wouldnt be too bad. The xml650 would be good for a 5x5.

The spectrum king IMO looks like a pretty good light... but a part from the companies tests which gave pretty good results I have not seen any grows with it.
Since you will spending quite a bit on tje lights, have you considered making your own?

A pound per tent in a 4x4 shouldnt be too hard to achieve

  7. I haven't considered making my own lights. Are there any DIY's worth looking at? The spectrum king is a solid light, in terms of hardware. They are local to me and their manufacturing is in fact done in house which is neat. But is their light output and spectrum what the plants need? I am willing to consider them and would document it in detail.

  8. After some more research, even the Spectrum King seemed to have a bad review on another board. I'm not really sure what brand to trust. What are the known LED grow light manufacturers with a proven track record?

    Advanced LED
    Amare Technologies (edited)
    Mars Hydro

Not in any particular order. There are different prices and products, so from there research what'll be best for you. Advanced is the most expensive and Mars the least expensive as far as I am aware.

  10. By Solar Spec, he means Amare Technologies. They have Solar Specs and Solar Eclipse (COB based panel). I nick-named it Mother Ship as it looks like 6 ufos docked

  11. Check out Mars Hydro. You would be good with a Mars II 1600

  12. Just make a panel like I did and it kicks the shit out of the ready made panels but will cost you $700+ to make each panel here's a video of day 29 of flower which started yesterday

the Mars II 1600 weighs 36lbs and is noisy as fuck. I have 2 still left from the ones I had less one that I smashed up and the Mars guys hate me for it lol

The AMARE Tech SolarEclipse350UVB will cover up to a 4x4, but will rock a 3x3.   The edges will drop off as all other panels due to the inverse square law.  The 260 does not have UV-b.  The Eclipse has a pat-pending COB/single chip/lenses configuration that enables it to deliver a very effective canna-specific spectrum at extreme intensity.  It also sports the awesome CREE CXA spectrum and XTE/XPE chips.

    HTH:)

  14. Mars 2 1200 watt led should work well in a 4x4 tent I have their 900w and love it ,works fantastic

  15. those lights are for beginners

  16. its the price point and effectiveness that make them attractive

  17.
Agreed. His spammed hate of the light doesn't mean it's bad. Lots grow using them with good results. Not everyone wants to build their own LED or has the means.

  18. For sure guesswhat ,with the advancements being made and the fine tuning of Led lighting going on I'm sure I could have spent the money for a black dog , but the way I look at it, why cause this works and the next one I buy  will be that much better than the one I bought already, its like a top of the line TV today I can get it for cheaper next year but this years model works fantastic for half the price  ?? I got what I paid for a light that's priced right and works [IMG]
