Why is smoking in moderation so damn hard

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by tam575, May 23, 2015.

  1. Im fine off the herb when theres none at hand. Ill crave it no doubt, but overall, ill be alright without it.
But whenever i purchase a new sack, or have a stray nug or two lying around, its like i have to smoke it. Like some magnetic pull pushing me towards the weed. I know there are just some people who can do it once in a while and some who cant and it sucks that i think im one of those people who cant.

I wanna be able to buy an 8th and be able to stretch it for 2+months. I want to be able to have weed but have the discipline to only smoke once or twice a week. But why is it so damn hard to do so? I know there isnt much advice that can be given... Its as simple as dont do it! But still, when the opportuniry to smoke arises, i pretty much always hop on it. Fuck me.

Have any of you been like me and managed to control yourself? If so, how did u manage

  2. You need to get some self control and discipline.

  3. Ive stretched out 14 grams over 2 months.  I would like to do better.  You just have to set daily goals.  I try to limit my smoking to twice a day.  Once in the morning and once in the evening.

If I have a lot to do, I wait until I complete my task then I smoke.

Always remember, too much of anything can be bad for you.

  4. Because weed is awesome and meant to be smoked all the time. Get your priorities straight so you can smoke more obviously.

  5. Just like anything else in life that you enjoy doing.  Taken to extreme and in most cases it becomes a problem.  If you can not get a grasp of things and keep your life in balance then you start letting your recreations become your life.

I bought a quarter just under a week ago and pretty much binge smoked about 4 grams. It's now been 3 days since I last smoked and I've still got 3 grams in my stash.

Whenever I do this it takes away the cravings. I need to have a day or two break to clear my mind and get things done. I then go back to smoking and it feels 10x better IMO. It's a lot more rewarding and I don't have to worry about sorting stuff out when high. Just kick back and relax with a joint. :)

  7. Try physically separating your weed into smaller amounts and keeping the rest of it somewhere that isn't convenient to get at. You could parse out a day's worth, or a week's worth, or whatever. I buy an oz a month with my fiance and split it into 8 jars, one a week for each of us. We've been steady at this consumption rate for several years. And I definitely notice that if I occasionally don't parse it out this way, I blow through it way faster.

  8. Will power my friend, will power.

  9. An 8th for 2+ months is hardly smoking at all. Unless you have a vape

  10. It could be. If you smoke infrequently enough, half a bowl can get you pretty ripped. So you'd have half a gram a week or like 2-3 decent bowls a week, which is plenty doable.

  11. Holy shit.

You really don't smoke much at all.

I've been growing perpetually for a long time. I have way more then I'll ever need at any given time..
I smoke 20+ j's a day. Multiple dabs as well.. I never really think about blowing through it. I never run out.

  12. I control myself by growing my own and smoking as much as I want. Your problem is that you want to smoke more than you think you should smoke for whatever reasons you may have. Understand the problem. It isn't "smoking in moderation" that is hard..... It is easy for a lot of people who might or might not define moderation the same as you. It is hard for you because it creates internal conflict. Resolve that conflict and the problem is solved for you.

  13. I have recently slowed down to just vaping once or twice a week. And usually 1-3 bowls in the vape is only 0.15g-0.3g a session. It definitely helps conserve and maintain a lower tolerance. But if i smoke I'm usually smoking around a gram. One of the many reasons i enjoy vaping over smoking.

  14. i can't even figure out how to just smoke once or twice a day.

  15. I wake up... Take a bong rip... Take a shower... Take a bong rip...

Wrote this post, took a bong rip. 😎

  16. Sometimes I get into a pattern of smoking every night then for some reason I find myself wanting to smoke even more. I often find its easy to control smoking when I just don't care about smoking. Some nights I just decide I want to sleep and not smoke then oddly enough I just don't smoke for a few days cause I don't feel the need to.
Smoking more often make me I guess want to smoke more. After smoking every day for a week I get to the point where smoking isn't fun or novel and it's a wast to keep smoking every night if it isn't fun. So that's what helps me give it a break.

  17. Try buying a sack, get stoned then hide nugs around your house.  Personally I just smoke a few snaps at night and that's it.

  18. Get a pill holder and separate the amount you wish to smoke into each day worked great for me and my buddies. Cheers

  19. I guess the simple answer is becuase you enjoy weed! There's no shame in that. I thought I couldn't moderate myself for a while and I'd always say to myself "alright, today i'm not going to smoke". Then I'd find some way to rationalize it, smoke, and then be like "fuck me, why'd I smoke again this time?" I guess the way I got over it was by avoiding rationalizing smoking and focusing on how awesome it'll feel once i actually do smoke after a good break, and remembering that it gets easier to resist the temptation of getting high after you've laid off for even a day. When you feel like smoking and you know it's on a day you shouldn't, do something to keep yourself occupied, and try to keep yourself away from anything having to do with smoking weed or getting high, including eyeballing your stash or cleaning your pipes if you can help it. Hope this helped --

  20. We may share a compulsive and somewhat addictive personality trait.
What I do is I have a hard rule, no smoking before dinner time. I still smoke pretty much 7 days a week but only a bowl or two a day.
