Ventilation in Tropical Country

  1. Hello everyone, Im a newbie from the Philippines and I just need help to control temperature in my grow room. Constant room temperature here is about 27 Celcius (80.6 F) and Im using a 600W HID which elevates the temperature more. Is it advisable to add an aircon that blows directly to my lights? And can I use this as my intake?

  2. Put the light in an enclosed air cooled hood, have the hood intake connected someplace outside the room and the blower exhaust also someplace outside the room, so that the the light hoods air flow is separate from the room.  Then install an aircon in the room, and a second blower on a timer that can vent the room when you want some flesh air.  The aircon will keep the room cool and remove humidity.

If the hoods intake is in your grow room and your aircon is running, lots of your cold air will just get sucked outside. That's why the hood needs a separate system. But running an aircon is expensive. Is electricity cheap in the Philippines?

  3. Thanks. Im thinking of running the aircon 24/7. Electricity here is cheaper compared to US i think. Its about 0.002USD/kwh

Hm. I live in Florida, and my hood intake is connected to my carbon filter, which is inside. I have to set my house temp to 68f just to get to 83f with 450w lol. I really need to invest in another fan.

  5. WOW! What?? $0.002/KWH?? If you added a zero on accident and it turns out to be $0.02 a KWH it is still a lot cheaper than I pay. I am paying about $0.05/KWH and I thought I was doing good! lol.

  6. I double checked it and it turns out that 0.002/kwh only apply to households consuming a very little amount of electricity per month. I checked my bill and they're charging me 0.23 USD /kwh.

  7. Oh wow! That is a lot! My bill runs about $200 usd at $0.08/kwh. My current setup costs me around $30 usd a month to run during veg. I would be broke where you live!

  9. I live near you, Thailand.  Actually Im supposed to be visiting your country in a week or two and hop to get some diving in after work.

I had 2) 4X4 tents in a spare room of my condo.  One with over 1,000 actuall watts (led) and another with about 600.  I kept AC on at ~25C 24/7 and ran large fans to get the hot air out of the tent.  In the heat of the summer, the air con could barely keep up.

I just moved and im setting up a grow room in a detached block room about 7'X10'.  No tent this time, just an oversized 12,000 BTU AC.
I agree with an above post, get a cool tube style hood, suck air in from outside, and exhaust it back out side.  That should eleminate most of your heating issue right there.
