New indoor grow - tent size for @ least 2lb harvest.

  1. Hi guys, new to indoor growing so just a few questions.Moving into a new place very shortly and will have ample space to have a pretty decent grow. I'm aiming for > 2lb every 8-9 weeks.will be growing in a tent, so what size tent is preferable? Would 2m x 2m suffice? From my understanding I am aiming for 500g (approx) per m2 of scrog. What kind of light setup would you recommend if I had a tent this size? I already have a 1000W HPS light & half a dozen 80w CFL lights... again would this be sufficient? And fans? Thanks guys.

  2. well for starters, if size and stealth is not an issue you will definitely want to go with two grow areas, one for flower where light can be controlled and one for veg where total darkness is not a requirement

  3. @lotek thats the plan. One room for veg, which isnt the question (planning on using quite a few CFLs for that) of which will feed the flower room continuously. So I will be vegging for 6 weeks (2 weeks cloning) etc.

  4. it's been a while since we had 1000w hps, so I kind of forget what the coverage was, I think is was 12 plants in 3 gallon pots, so let's see, that is 12 plants about ten inches each all scrunched up together, how many square feet is that?

  5. so if it's a 1000w, there's you answer. Just ask around what the footprint for flowering a 1000w hps has (and the foot print is not square) and you will know what size tent to buy

  6. is everyone on 600w these days? someone was telling me about that not too long ago... whats the reason of that do you know?I digress...4m²= 43.05564ft²... its one of the larger tents without being fucking huge lol.

  7. if it was me with a 1000w hps for flowering only and space or cost was not an issue I would go with 8x8 or 6x4. You don't have to use all the space in the tent but heat is an issue. Those tents get hot! Not a concern in your case because you can open the tent during daylight hours when the light is on.

  8. Ok great thanks. I think ill go with the 8x8 or there about.
Is one 1000w enough for that? Can get another light if ill pull more off the plants.

  9. it's from a study which attempts to prove  600w is actually more efficient than a 1000w, and I would agree, but not enough to ever replace a 1000w with a 600w

  10. Ah fair enough. I wont argue otherwise. But yes I have it, and shall use it. Ive been studying up on lumens and what type of light produces most. I was at the hardware store and there was an ex-display 2000w (halogen) work light set up on sale for $50 - which is a bargain at its regular price of $160... which obviously made me have to work out the lumens. Unfortunately it wasnt that simple as it wasnt anywhere on the box or on the halogen bulbs themselves... but a bit of research later & Ive discovered its somewhere between 12-22 lumens per watt. Smack in the middle would be 17lumens... which would be 34000 total (for 2000 actual watts mind you!)Compare that to my 80w CFLs which produce 5300, so if I use 8 of them that'll be 42400.42400 lumens for 640w or 34000 lumens for 2000w.... I know what I'd rather. Pretty glad I didnt buy the work light in the end even at that price.I figure the 1000w plus a 600w light in the 8x8 grow tent should be ample, and I'll use the CFLS for the Veg room.
