  1. A news crew has broken a story about a hot dog vendor in lower Manhattan, near Ground Zero, charging people, usually tourists, up to thirty dollars for hot dogs and pretzels.  Watch video in article below.

  2. lol does he not have prices listed or what?

For some reason the video won't play for me right now.

  3. All vendors are supposed to have their prices listed, by law.  He does not, but I'm sure that whatever agency is in charge of this will probably crack down on him now that this news report has been on television and online.

  4. Ok gotcha.

I haven't been to NYC in a while and never really kept up on the vendor laws lol

    Sounds like an opportunist shitbag.

  5.
This kind of shit happens more often than you think. Like I went to a strip club in Victoria BC one time and the bouncer says cover is 5 bucks a head. I'm like ok, I'll pay for my party of four, and hand him a 50. He gives me back 5. I'm like no man, you owe me 30 bucks back. He gives me another 10. I'm like "buddy, do the math, 4 heads times 5 dollars a head is 20 bucks, you owe me 30 back.

He finally coughs up  the rest of it, but I wonder how many drunks that little scam actually works on.

  6. In Hoboken, there is this bagel place where they are notorious for ripping off drunk people. Saw this kid who was blacked out pay 15 bucks once for a bacon egg and cheese, and I decided to stop supporting the scumbags. I definitely think it happens more often than people think, especially in places where there are bound to be a lot of drunk people.

  7.
I always pay cash in bars and pay for each jug or drink as they hand it to me, especially if I'm getting really drunk, because dickheads are liable to tack on an extra charge or two and pocket the difference.

I had this happen once where I ordered a jug at the end of the night (after paying cash for the rest, I just ran out) and he hands me the bill afterwards for 2 jugs. I'm like no buddy, we only had one jug, I paid cash for that last one. He got pissy and called the owner, who told him to fuck off and let us leave (we were regulars there, he knew us).

They'll smile and joke with you while ripping you off behind your back, it's disgusting.

  8.
I don't get it. Is there a dick joke in there? 2 heads a person or was he just bad at math?

  9. The hot dog guy that was overcharging for hot dogs and other things, has been fired by his boss.  The owner of the cart claims that he was unaware the customers were being overcharged, saw the report on TV, and now is left to pay fines levelled against him, by the City.

  10.
I guess if you're going to overcharge tourists in Manhattan (something that's more common than anything in the world) you should be more subtle about it

  11. Funny story

If the prices were unlisted and I gave him a 20, I'd get physical.if he didn't give me back 15$ at least.

Its no surprise they are fighting. I'm surprised this guys hot dog stand wasnt pushed over in a fit of rage

  12. So I can get away with pocketing extra money, and all I would be is fired while my boss pays for my mistake?

    Murica.

  13. Well, yeah, except for the citations and an inability to ever make that money again, rofl

  14. Maybe his boss will be able to file a civil suit, against his ex-employee, to recover the money he had to pay in fines.  I also don't think that Muhammad, the guy who was overcharging, will be collecting unemployment insurance since he was fired with cause.  The IRS could also get him for undisclosed income.

  15. anyone who paid that much for a hotdog and chips is retarded and deserved to be ripped off.

  16. the price wasn't listed.

He tricked people into assuming they are nornal price and kept their money

  17. This is just gross.

  18. Why is this in Pandora's box? I miss the Pandora of old. I dont mean the unmentionables. I mean back when we had real controversial shit on here. Like whether to eat cereal with warm or cold milk.

  19. Yah if they dont resist paying that much then they deserve to be ripped off, like what?

  20.

Could you not just change your mind when he tells you how much it is? Like you order a hot dog and he's like "that'll be $15" and you say "well never mind then" because who wants to pay that much for a hot dog.

I mean we're all about capitalism here, right? Supply and demand. Doesn't make people who pull this any less shitty, but it happens all the time. Gas stations near airports gauging prices, concerts charging $5 for a bottle of water. Is it only offensive because he's doing it at the WTC memorial?
