Well, that old timer sure looks wrecked, and I definitely see some purple smog....  I'd say it is indeed a 'purple train wreck'.
 
 
Regarding the strainer, it is a decent one.  Nice lip to catch the sink and all.  I'd have to test it with a few pounds of pasta to be sure, though...
