I always wondered why?

  1. You ever see facts that say something along the lines of "every ___ seconds a person dies/contracts/etc from this disease" or whatever..?

But what doesn't make sense to me is that there is no reference point for the amount of seconds they say.

So even if I count to (lets say) 8 secs, like the (example) fact says, sure I know that a person died or w/e in 8 seconds.. But also a person (or more) died per second I was counting because not everyone's second starts at the same time..

Lol so really my idea is that there is no purpose to those "facts".. Or I could be wrong?

Those numbers are based on total amount of something that happened in a year, divided by the days/hours/minutes/seconds  in a year.

There are 31,536,000 seconds in a year.

So,  let's make up a fact like.....every year 10,000 people die because of a bird.

Edit:  (fudged numbers earlier Thanks Slightly Stoned)  10K in 31,536,000 seconds =  Every 3,153.6  seconds a person is killed by a bird.

  3. Every 3,153.6 seconds, right??

  4.
I just noticed your tag  "Habitual Line Stepper"

Is that from the Jamie Foxx show?

  5. No, I got it from Charlie Murphys True Hollywood Stories on The Chappelle Show when he was talking about Rick James.
