Okay fellow growers I'm planning on starting an LED grow. Being that I'm still a amateur at growing, and a newbie when it comes to LED, I have a few questions about my set up plans.

As of right now I want to have a seedling/clone area coated with mylar, and lighted with 3, maybe 4, of the 30W(actual) CFL bulbs(6500K). Would this work? Also, would I need to add a (2700k) for seedling/clones?

After first transplant I want to move the girls to a 4'x4'x5'11" stealth tent. I was thinking about using a Mars II 700W in here just for vegging til the next transplant. Do you think I should use a larger light?

Then when they're ready to be transplanted again I want to toss them in a 5'x5'x5'11" tent, with a Mars II 1600W. Will a single Mars II 1600W be enough for this tent if it only contains 4-5 plants at a time?

I'm using 100% coconut coir for my medium. Should I pick up some perlite?

Being that I have short grow space (Just under 6' tall) I'm not expecting to use 5 gallons as I think the plant will get to big. I should be able to pick up a wide 5 gallon pot and make that work though, right?

I've been debating whether to use the Mars II LEDs or the SolarSpec LEDs. According to the email from the Solar Spec rep, I'll need at least 4 lights per tent. Sure they might be built well and come with a nice warranty but they're a lot more expensive than the Mars II. Being that it's my first LED grow I'm not ready to invest the 1000+ in lights, for just 1 of the tents... Should I reconsider the solar spec or go with the Mars II for the first run?

This is all that comes to mind right now but I'm sure I'll have more questions.
    All help is greatly appreciated!
I hope to get this project started very soon!

  2. everything sounds good but try and not to transplant so many times. its too stressful you really only need to pot up to your final pot size. try to go to your final pot as soon as they have established a good root system. hope this helps you a little bit. would you please let me know and keep me informed of how you get on with the LEDs. i have been looking into them myself but dont know anyone personally who have used them to get a true verdict on if there worth putting the hid´s away. please let me know, thank you!

  3. I haven't touched on ventilation yet. I'm going to have maybe 1 or 2 oscillating fans inside the tent. But It's a basement grow so I'm not sure if the air is going to be fresh enough. Certainly would hate to have mold issues or anything like that. Maybe I can rig up a fan with a filter to blow clean air in? Any suggestions for growing in a slightly dirty basement? Should I remove everything in the room I plan to grow and clean it thoroughly?

But I'm thinking one 6" or 8" exhaust fan in each tent should do the trick. And I'll add a carbon filter later when they get that stank to them. This should mean I need 2 exhaust fans and one with a carbon filter. Will this suffice?

I had a feeling 3 transplants would be rough on the plant and prolong growing times. But I figured the first 2-3 weeks they'd be in a root cube then up it to a 4 inch pot for about 3-4 weeks to build a good root system and veg under the LEDs and then the final swap to  either a 3 gallon pot or a 5 gallon pot and in to the flowering tent. I'll probably try both 3 transplants and 2 transplants and see which turns out better. Thanks for the advice! and I'll be sure to let ya know my results. Also I'll probably do one of these grow journals when I get started.

Hoping 2-3 weeks in a root cube wont cause root binding. Otherwise I'll start them in a 4 inch pot and let them sit in there until they're ready for a 3gallon or 5 gallon pot.

  5. good. the best way to try different methods side by side as you can clearly see the results from both methods. good luck and let me know

  6. I'm using a 900w mars 2 , be a year in July, I had it in a 3x3 closet with six plants. All flowered nicely, smoked great, good taste. I went ahead got another mars 2 400w I use it the first month of veg, then they go under a t-5 8 bulb panel 4-6 weeks, then I flower under 600w Solis tek ballast with Solis, tek 600w hps and the 900w mars2 led. Beautiful flowers.

  7. Pot,( container size). Started with 3 clones in 3gal root pouchs, by the sixth week of flower the root pouches were full. Since that happened I'll start my babies in solo cups when I see it's time to transplant I'll go straight into 5-7 gal root pouch. Just water around your plant till they get dug in. Then let them rip. Good luck.

  8. Should be finishing up my seedling/veg cab in the next couple days. I got bored and started some of my best bagseed in pots outside and they're starting to get big enough to be noticeable so it's time to bring them in. I'll bring the 3 bagseed inside and put them in the veg cab as soon as it's done. Should be ordering a Mars light and tent next week. So the plan is to start a grow journal when I start the next set of plants. [IMG]
