Any comic-book fanatics?

Discussion in 'The Bookshelf' started by MyHeadHurts, May 12, 2015.

  1. I recently decided to involve myself in the world of comics (mostly Marvel and DC). I just finished Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross and absolutely loved it! I'm reading Hulk comics now but I need help. I don't know where to start when it comes to reading comics in order. Is there a certain path/timeline I should be following?

Also, I read E-books but would like to have some paperback copies as well, where is the best place to order comics or buy comics in NYC?

  2. Read the whole superior spider-man, try V for Vendetta/Watchmen, Spider-verse is good too, I loved the noir marvel series. Also, epic indeed was the killing joke by alan moore... Marvel Civil War was a trip...

    Try this,

  3. Awesome, thanks. I think I'm gonna jump into Batman and do the Killing Joke as well as Batman: Hush and the Long Halloween. Superior Spider-Man sounds great, never knew the story of that.

  5. First off, DC and Marvel's timelines can get really complicated. Don't worry if you don't catch on at first. Wikis are your friend, but be careful for spoilers. I'll recommend some of my favorites.

    DC
Essential Batman reads: The Long Halloween; The Dark Victory; The Dark Knight Returns; Batman: Year One; The Killing Joke; Knightfall; No Man's Land; Death in the Family
Batgirl: Year One ; Robin: Year One

    Marvel
The color series by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Spider-Man: Blue ; Daredevill: Yellow ; Hulk: Gray ; Captain America: White
    Civil War was epic
All the Miles Moralles comics are great.
    Spider-Man/Deadpool (fun collab series)

    Independent Comics
Tokyo Ghost ; Blacksad ; Maus

Amazon and mycomicshop.com are your best friends. If you find an ongoing series you like, start a pull list at your local shop. They'll make sure a copy is put back for you.
Have fun and welcome to the biggest money-sucking hobby since DND!

  6. Not much of a fan of the DC/Marvel multiverses (which is probably cos I dislike every single empowered person wearing ridiculous-ass costumes, otherwise I dig the concept of superpowered individuals battling each other throughout the vastness of infinity), but I do read a lot of comics. My particular favorites are Hellboy, Rick and Morty, Lackadaisy, Elephantmen, Über, Crossed and any of the classic EC stuff from the '50s.

  7. I got my first comic green hornet its boring

  8. Umm, fuck yes! Currently reading some Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Two of my favorite characters, and Batman is my first favorite obviously. I also really love all the Alien vs Predator comics and novels, have a little Star Wars, like Golden Age of the Sith stuff, really cool. Mostly a DC guy, though. Oh yea, and fucking Spawn I love right up there with Bats too!

Here's most of my collection, this was a little while ago, so there's a bit missing
