Cannabis Oil For Metastatic Neuroendocrine Cancer?

    Hi,

My name is Sonya and I am 20 years old.

    My story:

In March of 2015 I was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called carcinoid, which falls under the umbrella of neuroendocrine cancers (NETs). I was misdiagnosed many times and suffered from carcinoid syndrome for 1.5 years before I diagnosed myself online and the doctors finally took it seriously and ran the proper tests along with a liver biopsy. Unfortunately, by this point, the disease had already metastasized to my liver which now bears a heavy tumor load that comes with seriously heavy symptoms.

My neuroendocrine liver tumors secrete the hormone known as serotonin. All day long I battle with my entire body flushing red, feeling weak, shortness of breath and wheezing because of the hormone overload in my body. I take injections of octreotide which is supposed to mimic the naturally occurring hormone somatostatin which suppresses the serotonin and calms symptoms. It really isn't working that well. I rarely leave my home because if I do I end up on the floor and it's really embarrassing.

My primary tumor was in my small intestine and I had it surgically removed April 21st along with two inches of small intestine and eight lymph nodes. To the doctors' knowledge, the disease is only on my liver right now. The surgeon who did my surgery told me yesterday to just "wait 3 months and then re-scan so that they can be sure that the disease is not extensive". These tumors, although apparently low grade, are GROWING inside of me and he wants me to just wait. He also told me that regardless of whether or not I get the correct octreotide dosage to completely manage my symptoms, it will make no difference and will not stop the DAMAGE that is being done to my heart valves every day due to the constant outpour of serotonin from my countless liver tumors. He told me they will never go away. He wants me to just wait. He shrugged at me as if to say "oh well, hope things don't get worse for ya. I can't do anything right now."

This doctor's arrogance absolutely infuriates me and I am bound and determined to put myself in remission using cannabis oil. I'd give everything I own to have a day in the future where I slam my clear scans on his desk and walk away. This is my goal and I'm going to make it happen. I have a man that's taken care of me all this time and treats me like a queen. He believes that I am going to get well and we are going to get married and start the family we have always wanted and I won't accept any reality other than that.

    -----------
I really started to get hopeful when I discovered that a lady in my support group put herself in remission using supplements, wheatgrass, carrot juice and cannabis oil (she worked herself up to a gram a day). She had pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer stage 4 inoperable alongside a liver full of tumors. She has been in remission since November 2014!!

Where I live, cannabis is legal for medical purposes. My doctor set me up with a dispensary and I have placed my first medical marijuana order, due to come to me in 4-5 days. I am going to make it into oil and I am going to take as much as I need to in order to get better, I don't care how it makes me feel because nothing can be as bad as how I'm feeling right now.

I guess my question is.... has anyone on here heard of anyone who's taking it for NETs cancer, as rare as it is? If you can offer me some advice it'd be appreciated.

I will keep everyone updated on how this goes!! :) I have had faith in this method since before I was ever diagnosed with cancer and I have even more faith in it now!

there is info there that could help you understand your condition better and find some healing for it. Good luck and bless you at this time in your life, hugs and happiness!

  4. Hi Sonya I have also just recently been diagnosed with Neuroendocrine cancer which is currently of unknown primary but been told the most common location is somewhere in the gut! METs have taken hold in my liver! They have told me that they cannot say with any certainty how long I have had nor how long I'll be able to live with this disease other than to say it would be years as opposed to decades. I have yet to start on any hormone treatment but currently waiting results of Gut hormone tests! It seems since first attending my clinic in late December last year I've went from one period of waiting to another with one scan to the next Ultrasound,CT,MRI, before Biopsy finally confirmed Stage4 Grade1 Neuroendocrine Carcinoma
I would like to at least explore alternative therapies such as Oil however living in the UK makes it incredibly difficult! I would really appreciate for you to share with me your experience going forward as I am a 38 father of 3 and desperate to find the answer is out there!

  5. Hello.

I read this thread with interest.

I was diagnosed earlier this year with incurable, advanced stage four, neuroendocrine cancer - it's metastasised throughout my body. I'm currently pursuing medical cannabis oil to try and better the current odds, which aren't good - similar to the stories here and that I read over the internet.

I've almost finished on a 100g dose of medical cannabis oil, ingested over 90 days. About to start on another 60g dose over the subsequent 60 days. Plan to get re-staged and re-scanned at that time when I finish on this next 60g dose. I'm based in the UK. It's been so difficult to get the right information - it's a real minefield.

It's helped significantly with my symptoms, but primarily I hope it's putting the cancer into remission. Will find out in the coming weeks if I'm heading in the right direction.

Be interested to hear how any of you have been, or are, getting on? Did you go down this route?

My blog is: www.uiiba.com if you are interested in following where this goes for me.

  6. Any shared experience or information regarding the creation or procurement of Oil and its benefits is very much appreciated!

  7. I'm reading your info now. thank you for taking the time to share your experience and may your efforts be rewarded with abundant life and wisdom!

You should consider buying this book first, by leading authorities in this area - Jeff Ditchfield and Mel Thomas:

    http://www.uiiba.com/all-blog-posts/2015625the-med...

Both their knowledge and longevity in this area is comparable to Rick Simpson (the man who has arguably been one of the most instrumental people in bringing cannabis oil to the world's attention, and perhaps more significantly in terms of exposure than anybody else. He was also one of the first to create the well-known extraction method, described in high-level, below).

However, having researched this area of cancer and medical cannabis for months – every single day, and starting off quite unconvinced and analytical – my belief is that Jeff Ditchfield (with Mel) are at the forefront of this movement with Rick Simpson (albeit they share different nuances and focus, with Jeff focusing on treating children dying of cancer - and with some real success [https://www.facebook.com/budbuddiesUK]). This became especially relevant to me, when I was considering Jeff's work with the Spanish team at Complutense university: this team (Manuel Guzman and Christina Sanchez) was the first to scientifically and conclusively prove that the compounds in the plant could selectively effect changes in the cell signalling pathways of cancer cells while leaving healthy non-cancerous tissue unaffected. Therefore, providing a selective targeting of the cancer, and with fewer side effects than almost all conventional treatments.

Further work in the area of cannabis's interactions within the body also discovered the endocannabinoid system (a regulatory system in the body, comparable in importance to the body's other systems such as the immune system existing with its own distinct function of fighting disease). It's worth looking into the human body's endocannabinoid system. It's the system that regulates homoeostasis and is the subject of widespread scientific interest, with documented theories that deficiencies in this system might be responsible for a significant proportion of diseases and disorders. It's also this endocannabinoid system that actually allows cannabis to work in the body – providing the body with the mechanism for it to interact (whether you were to smoke it, or - like me - use it medically). Importantly as well, the body produces its own version of THC (the compound that everybody knows as the one that gets you "high" if you're a recreational user, which I am not and have not ever been). This natural equivalent to THC is called anandamide (again, worth looking up). The view here, despite cannabis being much-maligned by policy and drug laws (and despite it being used as a medicine up until a few decades' ago), is that the cannabis plant produces something that is highly compatible with what the body produces naturally; the body produces its own version of THC, albeit much weaker and shorter-lived before it breaks down. The CB1 and CB2 receptors (specific endocannabinoid messenger "locks" in the body that receive chemical signals or “keys” from either the body itself or the plant's compounds) are the two main therapeutic areas of interest, currently. Again, this is worth a Google if you are interested.

The Medical Cannabis Guidebook above cuts through the misinformation that is common on the internet (people with limited information or experience, or people guessing without really knowing what they are talking about etc.), and it gives you the facts you need about medical cannabis.

Ultimately, avoid buying cannabis oil on the internet at all costs. There are people selling olive oil as cannabis oil and pitching nothing more than deception to vulnerable people. Many are selling lies as a potentially life-saving medicine - further discrediting its capability and potential for success. And, they are charging up to £100 per gram; these are unscrupulous people cashing in on desperate patients - nothing more. Cannabis oil is generally very expensive to buy from even reputable local people you might be able to find. Expect to pay north of £40 per day for a cancer dose. £50-70 per day seems to be the average people are paying when buying this: http://m.couriermail.com.au/news/desperate-cancer-....

Ideally, grow and make your own (I am not oversimplifying how complex this can be, and speaking from personal experience). Producing the oil is not difficult (you need a solvent to extract the plant's active compounds [called cannabinoids], some coffee or similar filter papers to filter the liquid solution, and a rice-cooker or similar to gently heat the solvent off - you are then left with a tar-like residue). It's really not much more involved than this, and takes no more than an hour to make, even for a beginner. The problem for most people from my research is the availability of the raw plant material in the first place.

Moreover, you can make the oil readily with items you have in your kitchen (plus the purchase of easily accessible additional items such as isopropyl alcohol as one of the most common and recommended solvents - again, discussed in Jeff and Mel's book). Always grow organically, and avoid chemicals and pesticides (when you concentrate something by volume as heavily as cannabis oil is at up to 8:1, you will be concentrating the bad as well as the good, otherwise). See: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/24/marijuana....

If you cannot, for whatever reason, grow your own, try and find a trusted source (or ask people to help) to get hold of the plant, avoiding dealers wherever possible and at all costs - not only will they will charge up to £6,500 (GBP) for a kilo of the plant's bud (the bit you need), but they won't be interested in you as a patient or your condition. A kilo of the plant's flower | bud at an 8:1 ratio of plant to oil would provide you with around 125g of oil, give or take. Dose-wise for cancer, you would expect to be taking around 1g a day for a full cancer dose - dependent on your body weight for dosing (the larger, the more you will need), as well as factoring in how aggressive the cancer is; but, 1g each day can be viewed as an average guideline dose for a fully grown adult as a loose and general guide. This dosing is not based on pharmaceuticals (they are only just really starting to take this seriously - e.g. http://www.gwpharm.com/Sativex.aspx) based on the last 10+ years of people with cancer - on the ground - administering this and working out what worked and perhaps didn't work so well. It's as tried and tested as it can be without any significant peer-reviewed human clinical trials - again, these are starting to happen. With this information, and looking at how inaccessible medical cannabis often proves to be for cancer patients, you can see how 1g a day at 125g in total from 1 kilo of plant material only allows for around 125 days' worth at an average cancer dose... It's very expensive unless you are growing this yourself and have control over the supply chain and how it's grown. Other non-cancer diseases or disorders will generally require considerably less oil at a lower potency. The USA is leading the way on childhood seizure disorders and the availability of a specific strain of medical cannabis oil - high-CBD and low-THC oil. Real successes are covered every day, globally, around this in high-profile editorial and on the most reputable news agency websites.

Also, for cancer (or any disease or disorder), avoid things like this at all costs: http://metro.co.uk/2015/08/11/first-legal-cannabis.... What is listed on the Metro's site is NOT cannabis oil. It's industrial hemp oil. It's not just suddenly become legal in the UK - this is marketing | journalistic misinformation and really quite dangerous information to be pumping into the public. Medical cannabis oil being described in the media time and time again at the moment is, I suppose, similar to clustering together a huge array of available cars, models and manufacturers and just referring to all of these in a singular context - as a car. Yes, they are all cars, but comparing a new high-specification Audi to a 15-year-old Nissan might raise some eyebrows and questions. There are over 100+ compounds in the cannabis plant, and work is still needed to work out the optimal combination of these for specific diseases and disorders. It's important to understand that cancer has a very different medical cannabis requirement in the body to a childhood seizure disorder.

One thing we do now a lot about however, is that cancer patients need two of the plant's compounds in abundance. THC (the most abundant, active [cannabinoid] compound) in the plant is essential as it is able to effect programmed cell death of the cancer - known as apoptosis - while leaving healthy tissue intact. CBD (another active cannabinoid compound that is often discussed in the context of childhood seizure disorders [http://www.medicaldaily.com/medical-marijuana-retu...]) has a different set of pathways and anti-cancer mechanisms: including an antiangiogenic effect (preventing the cancer building its own blood vessel network to feed it, as well as having an anti-metastatic effect (helping prevent it from spreading).

As I've put on my blog [http://www.uiiba.com/] - never let anybody use the word miracle or cure. It's neither. But, it may just well be one of the most effective cancer treatments discovered to date, with its intelligent, selective ability to target only the cancer and send it into remission while leaving the surrounding healthy tissue untouched. It's sent even the most advanced, aggressive cancers into remission, where patients have had months to live. One story is available here:

I am personally aware that it has helped hundreds of people, having talked to many of them and discussed their success and route. This is not snake oil or a sugar pill as Cancer Research UK [http://scienceblog.cancerresearchuk.org/2012/07/25...] and similar organisations might have you believe - cannabis oil is able to send cancer into remission. However, how efficacious it is, is the unknown. It will - like all medications - not work in every case. And, there are 200+ types of cancer, each with different behaviours. But, the signs so far are both particularly encouraging and positive.

I guess we will see whether the advanced stage four neuroendocrine cancer in my body can be overturned by what amounts to a compelling amount of anecdotal evidence, backed up with highly credible science, a growing movement of patients who cannot wait for the pharmaceutical industry to stop sitting on their hands as they have been for 17 years, and more and more people trying this route and getting results.

  9. Hi Sonya,

    I hope and pray
your treatment goes well, my name is William my mum was recently diagnosed with nets and is receiving the same treatment as yourself and not getting any better. Unfortunately I live in the UK and cannabis in any form is still illegal so I am asking the community out there is there anywhere I can buy the cannabis oil in finished product, I don't care if it has to be done by importing illegally or even flying out to where I can buy it and shipping it to the UK.
I would try making it myself however the price of cannabis in the UK is ridiculously high so buying the finished product would be far more affordable. Any help or advice very much appreciated.

  10. Thank you GR for sharing. Look forward to future updates!

  11. I was diagnosed with terminal endocrine cancer last August. I was told that I had less than a year to live. Recently I was told that there is nothing more the medical community can do for me. Last October i started seeing a naturopath. Since that time I have been taking a lot of vitamins and have completely changed my diet. I am about to enter the cannibus world. I would appreciate any help I can get with this

  12. Hi Janet,
I am new to this forum, I was diagnosed with NET in January 2016 ( mets to liver, scheduled for CT and Bone Scan upcoming ) after many years of misdiagnoses and unnecessary, painful procedures. I did cannabis oil for apprx 4 months (120 grms. ) It did help with some symptoms, went off it for about a month, and now plan to go back on it. Worked good for pain. My naturopath is guiding me on the right THC/CBD combination. That is very important. I did not like the high I experienced, so he recommended taking citicole one hour prior, haven't tried it yet. He also has me on some herbs etc. Also, just had my second monthly Lanreotide injection. Just finished watching The Truth about Cancer....very good segments on cannabis oil....very positive. :)

  13. Hi Mary! Sorry about your diagnosis. I just started the oil about 2 weeks ago and so far things are going ok. Haven't figured out how much I should be taking yet. This is all so new. I wish there were some definite answers. What herbs are you on?

  14. Hello Janet,

Check out www.phoenixtears.ca/ good info there. Rick Simpson is a pioneer in this field. So sorry about your diagnoses as well. I was up to 1 gr a day spread out in 4 doses, but had to build up my tolerance. My naturopath is wonderful, and an expert on this. As I said in my last post, the thc/cbd ratio is important. I am fortunate to have his guidance. I am taking Liver Support, ( milkthistle etc.) curcumin, quercitin, red reishi, niacin, vitamin d, grapeseed extract, as well as wheatgrass, chlorella, spiralina, moringa, match tea, in my smoothies. My naturopath also has me on low dose naltrexone which is a prescription. What are you taking? Taking some other natural things for stress and to control the cortisol when needed as well. Hope this helps.. :)

  15. This has been a wealth of info so thank you all for that. What is the consensus of using hash to make coconut oil base extractions and having it close to 500mg a daily dose as a replacement for entire plant extraction into just RSO with up to 1g a day? I looked up some lab tests for RSO and found that a lot of the time it is slightly weaker than it is supposed to be THC content wise (500-700mg per gram instead of the advertised 900-1000mg) plus all the talk of bioavailability and liposmal encapsulation ala badkittysmiles technique has me wondering if people aren't just "passing" so much of the meds by injesting RSO. Also, I would love to check out some info on making suppositories, ideally using coconut oil and a mold? That blog seems down? Or I am having problems accessing it.

  16. Thanks for saying you will update your info. That is how we all learn here.

Cannabis doesn't have a favorite cancer. It seems to work on all cancers the same. I am relieved you found out about cannabis oil on your own. It's hard to guide a person to it because of all the stigma and emotions surrounding it. So don't waste anytime taking it and go slow. Start with a very small amount and work up to a gram a day. If you feel too strung out, take a little less the next day. When you start feeling like you can add more, do. Take some time to educate yourself by listening to podcasts like Cannabis Health Radio. There are great websites out there like Illegally Healed and Pheonixtears.ca If anyone gives you a hard time, have them watch the father of cannabis research to hear what he has to say. . Best of luck in your healing.

  17. Do what you can to find cannabis oil. You will need the whole plant oil. Not just CBD. Find activist in your area. They may know of someone that can make it for you. It takes a lot of cannabis so it's not cheap. But, at least in America, it's cheaper and way easier on the body than chemo. It works better than chemo and it is not toxic to the body. Good luck friend.

  18. And when you are finished with your oil regiment, take a maintenance dose daily to keep tumors away or benign.

  19. So, there is no correct exact dose but try and work yourself up to a gram a day. The best thing is to take as much as your body can handle until your tumors are gone. Until you get a No Cancer Detected bill of health for your doctor. Most people take about 60 grams but if you have had chemo and/or radiation, you many have to take double that and then some. After you have come back to health, take a small rice grain size dose a day to keep your body in a state of homeostasis.

  20. Hi Sonya, my mum has the same and I'm looking into canabis oil, how is everything with you? She's just about to start octreotide injections next week but really want to get rid of the tumour rather than waiting for it to keep growing . Nia
