Producing sugar from shit

  1. Hello friends old and new. This is where I keep track of my various projects. Please offer any feedback, criticism, advice, or ideas you have. My goal is to learn from everyone reading this, and gain insight from your perspective, while hopefully sharing something of value.

I am a medical patient producing my own medicine using 7gal no-till sips top dressed with my sheep's manure/straw bedding mix. I veg in straight castings with lava rock in the bottom. I then go into the final container for at least a week or two so it can fill the pot with roots before the flip. Here's one going in now, actually there's a few seedlings on the side that I'm sexing, more on those later.

Random cut I received as Blue OG Ghost but I call it "Swayze"

May I ask how it is you do your "SIP"?

  3. pulling up a chair! i brought some scoobysnacks for the party, where should i put them? [IMG]

  4. The reason I named this thread as I did is because I have a passion for recycling/freecycling/upcycling. I always look for ways to do more with less, utilize waste, repurpose, repair, rebuild, scavenge, salvage, wildharvest, dumpster dive, barter, trade, or borrow before I consider going to the store. It's a form of alchemy, making something valuable from something that's not.

For today's example, I walked around my yard gathering dandelion plants whole, making sure I got as much root as possible. I then soak them for a couple days, strain, and repeat. This gives me several rounds of ready to aplly, sweet smelling brew. I've let dandelion go for a long time and it smells horrible, so a few short soaks until the material is broken down is preferable. I get at least 4 rounds before the root's are mushy, and the plants always respond well to this. I soak about 2 handfuls in 4 gallons of water.

I made my SIP by placing a 4" drain pipe in the bottom of a 7 gallon square pot and added a drain hole 3" up. Pretty simple, reasonably effective, but I wouldn't call it a perfect solution. The plastic pots are breaking down and I have a killer batch of castings so I want to mix a new batch of soil and fill 25 smartys and add Blumats possibly.. or something similar.

  5. I did a dandelion FPE last year and you aren't lying about that smell!
I'll have to try the shorter-length brews this year.

  6. ^2 days and it smells like candy. 2 weeks and it smells like "the rancid feces of a fast food junky" as someone once said somewhere online, and I thought that was reasonably accurate. I used to do more ferments and such but short soaks work just as well and don't leave me gagging.

  7. Hey smalphy! haven't taken a chance to say hello yet. Hope you've been well. I have read your posts before on the LOS forum. It is good to see you over here on GC. Garden looks like it is rocking. Nice work man!

Thanks! More to come but it's a busy time of year.

Putting up a sheep pen today using pallets, branches, recycled fencing, recycled wire, etc. Not spending any money on this project so we have to make it work with what we have.

Finally added my wool mulch and it's even more luxurious than I could have imagined. Saw my neighbors doing it with alpalca wool and couldn't wait to try it. Holds a perfect ring of moisture right on the soil surface and below the canopy. Definitely an A+ mulch material, and it was a by product of having sheep to clear land, along with plenty of manure.

  9. Why put vegetable seeds into the compost when you can sprout them for an enzyme tea? These bell pepper seeds took a couple weeks, but I am always sprouting stuff anyway so it wasn't much extra work to keep them moist.

Just ordered a 3 mm thick banger from king of quartz. The guy at the local glass gallery told me about him; apparently he makes them himself in MI, plus he's been blowing scientific glass for 50 years! And his prices are reasonable, the pukinbeagle jointed domeless is $275 and the one from king of quartz is $75 and it's just as high quality. I got one of his flared cup straight nails as well so stay tuned for a review.

The banger I had was so nice, I'm planning on getting the custom coil from CFAB that heats the bottom and sides. I was going to get a CFAB banger but I don't trust China glass.

I've been using a cheapo ceramic domeless nail since my cheapo quartz nail and banger both broke, and it has great flavor but the thing is not durable to say the least. It already has a major crack after about 2 weeks of regular use.

Not much work on the sheep pen today. May flies are crazy. Baby chickens are outside finally. Leaves are really filling in on the trees. Time for a quick chooch, after that hit the plants with some neem, then make some hash. I want to make sure I have a good supply of StrawBubbaFunk IWE on hand for the new banger and I gotta get this trim out of the freezer to make room. I'll post up some pics of that later.

  11. Just had a bunch of Hopi corn left overs that were blended up and given to my various lettuce and kale. They are coming on strong after the left over neem/kelp tea. Have been hitting the Wheat grass seeds hard lately also.

    I love spring!

  12. Haven't tried wheatgrass but I'm definitely interested. Do you consume any of it, or are you just doing SST? A friend looked 10 years younger last time I saw him and he attributes it to juicing kale and wheatgrass. He trains for strongman and does the tough mudder events so he must be doing something right.

  13. May I ask what else his diet consists of? If at all possible to find out.

  14. I juice it. I'm also growing Dinosaur kale and Red Russian this year. Stuff is real easy to sprout too. Generally I do 1/4 of a quart jar with seeds and that fills 2 flats with dense grass. Cut, juice and drink.

  15. What kind of juicer are you using? The friend I mentioned said he uses a masticating juicer and that it's a critical component to his routine.

He said he was doing a lot of juicing but honestly I'm not too sure about the rest of his diet. I only see him once in awhile and we talked about gardening and juicing recipes mostly last time. I'll be sure to ask him because I'm curious myself.

  16. I got an email from king of quartz telling me that the banger I ordered might not fit a 20mm enail coil.. so he offered to make a custom one that should fit at no extra charge! I'm really impressed with the level of customer service. I highly recommend shopping through this guy for your quartz needs. Tell him the guy who ordered the banger with the 20mm cup sent you..

  17. Yes, I have a mascating juicer. Omega J8006 certified refurbished off amazon. 179.00 plus shipping. It is one of the few that are affordable to juice wheat grass. Most cheaper juicers have a high rpm and won't juice grasses.

When 179 is affordable you know your talking about real equipment. IOW not like the Jack Lelane POS I got from someone.

Have you run cannabis leaves through it? You can juice your fan leaves and get a lot of health benefits from the raw, non active cannabinoids.

  19. that's why I went with certified refurbished the new version is 300 +

I haven't juiced the fan leaves yet. I seen where people are doing it.
