Well, after three failures and around 4 clones and 14 seedlings dead I'm finally seeing some success! Maybe my black thumb is getting a bit greener [IMG]

I am growing Mega Jackpot Fem from AMS under a 180w LED UFO, in a tiny really crappy rip off of a box that has caused nothing but headaches... but after extensive modifications I've gotten it working!

Day 8 from seed, She was growing slow up top but the root growth was far better than I'd seen in my previous attempts.

Day 11 from seed, She's still growing slowly but it's looking good. By this point in my previous grows the plants were dying so I was pretty excited.
    View attachment 156252

Day 13: I started seeing signs of nut burn so I lowered the PPM to 110.
    View attachment 155411

Day 14: The plants have some new growth but the older leafs are getting worse
    View attachment 156251

Day 19 from seed, or Day 5 from what I considered the start of Veg: I realized the primary cause of my problems was my water temps which where way too high, sitting in the mid 80's. I lowered my temps to 60-72. I've pruned the first set of leafs off and cut about 50% of the second set off as well as they died from the problems I had earlier.

Day 9 of veg: The plant is starting to grow fast and is looking healthy. I have some minor signs or root rot but it doesn't seem to be too extreme. I pruned one of the leafs off from the 2nd set but after a closer look I decided there was enough healthy green area on it that I shouldn't have pruned it so I left the other side. I'll prune that later when she's a bit bigger.

Day 11 of veg: She's continuing to look really happy. There is still some brown on the roots above the water line but new growth is looking healthy. I'm continuing to work on better regulating the water temps and increasing O2 levels, hopefully that will stop the rot from spreading.

  2. Day 13: She's continuing to look really happy. I've been able to keep my water under 72(f) for a few days now, although my apartment has been down right fridged lol The roots are really starting to get big now also, and the rot seems under control. All is well.

  3. congrats[IMG]

just keep the environment stable and you got this

  4. Day 15 of veg: She looks happy still, I increased my PPM to 500 Friday evening. Saturday I haven't really seen any new growth and the root rot appears worse.

Overall from the top though she still looks happy.

Day 18: Over the last few days the plant hasn't really grown much and the root rot seemed to be getting worse. To try and fight the root rot I've been replacing my nutrient solution and washing my resevor every other day along with adding Hydroguard into my mix (I'll go back to my normal cleaning schedule this weekend). Hopefully this will help things out, so far the roots are still quite discolored but newer growth is looking healthy. I also noticed I was getting a ton of small bushy growth very low on the stem. There were 3 or 4 nodes in about 1/4 inch total, so I pruned those leafs off in an effort to get the plant to spend it's energy growing the top leafs instead of those crowded small leafs. Overall I think she looks happy, but I wish she was still growing as fast as she was last week.

Still looking healthy from the top, I think I had a bit too much N because my leafs were curling down last night, I lowered the PPM and they seem better today.

The plant looks much leaner without all the undergrowth, hopefully removing the lower fan leafs will help the plant focus growth on the bigger leafs.
    View attachment 156503

The roots are still discolored and falling apart up high, this is after I rinsed/whipped them off as best I could
    View attachment 156505

However the newer growth looks healthy and abundant, hopefully it stays that way...

  6. Update for veg week 3

    Week 3 Day 6:
The plant is finally growing again, trimming the lower leafs stunted it's growth and the root rot caused some damage to a few leaves.

You can see some minor discoloration and spotting on the top leaves
    View attachment 156659

She's growing little leaves in the nodes of the older leaves. I didn't expect that.
    View attachment 156660

The root rot is still a problem that I'm fighting.. I used the spray nozzle on the sink to try and "pressure wash" as much dead roots away as possible, they looked much better here after this than before. I should have taken a pic of the before, but here's after.
    View attachment 156662

The lower younger roots looks better that the ones that have been having issues.
    View attachment 156661

    Week 4 Day 1:

Well the plant is growing quick and looking healthy, the discoloration and the spots have not gotten worse!
    View attachment 156663

Sadly when I was lifting the plant to check the roots I hit the light and broke this poor little leaf in half :( I suspect that means it's going to die, and I was just about to FIM the next node too... Now I'll probably want to wait for the next set after that so the top doesn't have a broken dying leaf...

On a good note the root rot is finally looking better!!

I'll be switching to Advanced Nutrients tomorrow and adding Voodoo juice into the mix with the Hydroguard. Hopefully this combo will nip the root rot in the butt! She's 4 inches tall today, so I'm going to wait about 5-6 more inches before flipping to flower. I'd like to switch at the end of week 4 but we'll see. I'm thinking I'll need a 5th week of veg.

Week 4 of veg is complete. I was hoping that I would be able to switch to flower starting in week 5, but she's only 5 inches tall and I just FIMed the plant on the first day of week 5 so I'll have to give her another week, maybe two.

Overall she's looking healthy and happy, I halved some of the higher large fan leaves and removed the lower growth to get better air flow and light penetration. So far the plant has seemed to respond well to this.

I FIMed the plant back on Thursday when I pruned it but I'm pretty sure I cut too high as the plant just seemed to be continuing it's normal growth pattern. Today (Saturday) I FIMed again, this time instead of just cutting the leafs I hit the tip of the stem which I think is what I wanted. We'll see how this goes.

Now onto the roots, they're still not looking great and every time I clean the reservoir there is bits of roots, and tiny particles floating around in large quantities and the roots continue to look poor, at least the top half. The lower half is growing a nice pretty white and at this point I've seen no negative effects on the top side of the plant (not that I have anything to compare this to..)

One last note is this week I have completely changed up my nutrients. I'm abandoning the Blue Planet Nutrients in favor of an Advanced Nutrients schedule. For the remainder of veg I will be using Sensi Grow A-B, B-52, Hyrdoguard and FoxFarms Microbe Brew. For flower I will be using Sensi Bloom A-B, B-52, Overdrive, Big Bud, Voodoo Juice and Hydroguard.

Haven't really been doing too much or taking many pics since I've been busy moving between places. The plant is looking healthy and I finally flipped her to flower on Saturday and she's grown quite a bit already! Since I moved into a bigger place I had room to give her some more space and so I put her in a closet all of her own.

Here she is in here new home [IMG]

On some more exciting news I had to start my next grow earlier than I planned due to a trip this fall that I'm planning. I'll be growing four feminized Mega Jackpot plants in a 48x48x80 tent under a AdvancedLED XML 650 light so stay tuned for that!

Well the first week of flowing is complete. She's looking great!

I lollipopped the plant mid week, the stems are crazy thick!
    View attachment 157953

The only issue I see is that after FIMing the plant the tops never started growing again and the side branches have out grown the tops and so there is like a bowl where the middle is lower than the sides. I'm trimming leaves to make sure light keeps hitting the middle but it doesn't seem to be growing much.

I can't wait for her to start producing some buds, it's an exciting time!

  10. Everything is continuing to progress well, I've had a few lower leaves die and fall off, but I assume this is just due to age or something. I have some signs of minor nute burn on lower leaves but nothing too bad and the tops look healthy. For some reason my Primo PPM meter shows "---" instead of a PPM, idk why... I've been topping the water off with more nutrient solution at the same strength as the water in the reservoir, maybe that's wrong?

Finally showing some buds starting, can't wait!!

  11. Another week another update to the log :)

Pics from week 5 Day 2

She's grown in leaps this week!

The buds are still barley there, but you can clearly see the pistols forming, so they're coming along slowly but surely.
    View attachment 158674

  12. Nothing really new to note, the buds are slowly getting bigger and the plant is rapidly growing in height. All in all she looks pretty healthy although I think the lack of light is really starting to show in the size of the buds.

  13. Wrap up from week 6 of flower: Buds a getting bigger, they're still very small though. This light is working but everything is taking forever... I was hoping to harvest in 2 weeks but I'm thinking it's going to need longer than that. I'm not really sure yet, we'll see.

  14. Week 7 is complete things are going pretty well. The plant is 28 inches tall as of week 8 day 2 which according to the seed bank is the maximum height this strain grows to so I don't expect her to get any taller.

    View attachment 159385

The buds are finally starting to fill in and are getting frosty which is looking really nice. I'm also seeing a lot of buds developing throughout the top 50% of the plant so I expect to get a decent yeild out of this plant even with the tiny under powered LED; maybe half to 3/4 of an ounce?

    View attachment 159386

Close up of the buds, starting to look pretty frosty, I'm finally getting excited about this grow :)

    View attachment 159387

I'm thinking I'll probably run another two and a half or three weeks before harvest. I'm not sure when exactly I should chop her down, I'll have to start doing some reading on that. Stay tuned, let's see how these buds fill out :)

  15. I'd give it a whole month
I'm subbed in tho I want to see how this plays out

  16. A month huh? This has been a very slow moving grow, I was hoping it'd be done a bit sooner than that. I ordered a 50x magnifier today so once I get that I'll be able to get a better look at the tricomes.

Week 8 update, the buds are really starting to swell and gain some weight. This girl is looking so much better than I expected 3 weeks ago. I still doubt I'll get much more than half an ounce which sucks, but it looks like it's going to be a damn good half ounce.

    View attachment 159727

The buds are getting bigger and covered in resin, I wish I had my scope so I could get a better look at the trichomes. I noticed the tips of the pistils have started to turn amber.

I discovered today how amazing the zoom on my phone is so we get some cool close ups now [IMG] It's hard to tell but the trichomes look like they are mostly transparent to cloudy.

    View attachment 159731

What do you guys think, one or two more weeks before I flush?

How about guesses at yield, I'm thinking 0.5 oz.

  18. I've been watching the trichomes with my scope the last week and it looks like about 80% of the trichomes had turned milky on Tuesday so I took a small sample :)

    View attachment 159881

It's finally dried today! It's quite delicious. Really smooth smoke, pretty mild flavor and a strong effect. I'm really impressed for the quality of this bud considering the light and environment this plants had.

    View attachment 159882

Stay tuned harvest shouldn't be too far out! I don't know how long it takes to go from milky to amber but I plan to start flushing when about 10-20% of the trichomes turn amber. I'm thinking maybe this weekend?

  19. Week 9 is complete, about 80-90% of the trichomes are milky. The leaves are starting to show weird spots on them, I'm not sure what the deficiency is yet, but I'll have to figure that out, they seem healthy otherwise and the buds look awesome.

I got a 60x scope this week, I tried using it to get some cool micro shots but it didn't really work.

In fact the normal zoom on my camera works quite a bit better. A few trichomes look amber in some of these but near as I can tell that's just some weird lighting effect with the flash.
