I couldn't find a page purely on light manipulation, if anyone could lead me there that would be great. In the meantime I figured I'd start up a conversation on this topic. I'm looking to gain some insight on different light cycle techniques. More specifically I am interested in a 14/6 type of light cycle. Apparently some people have had success vegging in that setup for 18 hour days, claiming that it causes quicker growth. According to these people the science behind it is that a plant grows at 100% its rate only for a short amount of hours during a light cycle. So by cutting down the light cycle you can take advantage of this short time span and repeat it sooner by the next cycle, rather than using a 24 hour light cycle which allows the plants to grow continually at the expense of a slower rate of growth, as well as higher energy inputs (higher electricity bills). In my scenario I am trying to speed some plants up that I'm starting off indoor and hoping to place outside by June. So I want the veg speed of a 24 hour light cycle, but I do not have the time to ween them off of that type of schedule without risking a fair amount of shock. Any thoughts?
All depends on your environment how many hours will you be at in June outside. I have bought clones in june and put straight outside. I also have clones outside now and I'm at 14 hours of sun. My backyard is south facing so I get sun allday.keepem green.
Good luck on your attempts....many plants will die here as they twist to herms ..cheaper if you just read a book
No herming. Thanks for your insightful post though. Not sure what you mean by cheaper. The internet is free and it has all the answers that a book does!
I am aware that the hours of light effect flowering but i wanted to know if the hours of darkness effect it as well. With a 14/6 light cylce, 6 hours of darkness is much less than the natural cycle and so I wanted to know if placing my plants outside would cause them to flower due to increased darkness, NOT increased light. Thanks for the response.
it's science. cannabis requires a 12/12 light cycle to flower properly. why do people still insist on fucking with nature, expecting a result other than utter failure.
Thanks for the response. Some more detail would be appreciated. Turns out, if the plants is not far enough into veg it won't herm. That is some nice info that I'm sure you were both aware of and could have provided me instead of mocking my attempts.
Like I said, no failure so far. Thanks again though. I'm pretty sure agriculture, organic or synthetic, is ALL about manipulating natural processes?? BRONZE MEMBER YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER! Will send pictures if you'd like. No trannies in my bunch
@BWeeds This quote has a ton of good information, definitely worth a read. http://forum.grasscity.com/indoor-medical-marijuana-growing/506139-24-7-lighting.html#entry6174245
