Addicted to time

Discussion in 'Philosophy' started by yurigadaisukida, May 4, 2015.

  1. I've had a self realization.

    I am obsessed with transhumanism.
I don't like to waste time, because I know time is limited.

I feel unfulfilled if life gets in the way of optimizing my personal time.

I think this is the root of my laziness, I don't want to waste my.precious time on tedious boring stuff.

Why am I a glutton for time? Why can't I enjoy what time I have?

  2. In a word...internet.

As much as the internet has enhanced my life and abilities to garner information, it's a double edged sword.

In past years if I had a tech question about auto repair I would have to seek answers from fools at parts stores...or sort thru manuals for hours...

the net changed all that, I have all the info at my fingertips....but can I stop being distracted by the sheer volume of available info and concentrate on my objective?

This may not be the answer to your question ....but it's something that I notice daily....[IMG]

  3. I have this, just make yourself do whatever you need to, it makes life more interesting and is never as bad as you think it is. On my days off I set my alarm pretty early instead of having a lie in, because the day lasts longer and feels less wasted, but then I never do what I intended to do that day.

  4. If I'm reading your lines correctly, you CAN enjoy the time you have, and probably do, but that enjoyment is interrupted with "tedious boring stuff".

In my personal life, I have been frequently amazed at just how much small tedious tasks can bother me.   Back in college I would have a 2 page paper due in random classes.  Classes I was usually acing and participated in class discussion frequently, but those @#$% two page papers felt like this huge chore to me.    I wasn't a bad or slow writer either.  They were usually 30-45 minutes of work.   I was just majorly inconvenienced by having to write about something I either had no interest in, or felt was too rudimentary to claim an hour of my time.

Maybe that doesn't relate to your thing but certainly made me think of it.    I never had a problem "Enjoying the time I have".   It's just that that time constantly gets interrupted with menial tasks we have no interest in.

  5. I too find it arduous to take on a task without doing it in the most time consuming, logical, least strenuous way. I'm reading a book right now called The Ascent of Humanity (brilliant thus far) in it he talks about the obsession to save time. He says it can be brought as far back to when we developed agriculture, and the gradual progression of technology (not so gradual anymore, more exponential imo)... we love to do things faster and better than before. It's only natural to be this way as a human, I would think. Having realized this in the few trades I've been in, it's routinous and becomes monotonous over time.

While it is important to have the knowledge of knowing how to do whatever it is best, it's vital to do so consciously. And sometimes, it's not about cleaning up the house in 20 minutes...maybe just put on a nice Playlist, make some tea...and do so consciously.

time is money, in the sense that you gain it to lose it, and seconds buy your high like dollars buy your supply. and you dont want to waste either on something you won't like.

  7. I feel like life is what people avoid so they can do other things

  8. Time isn't real. You can't be addicted to it. You're addicted to the man made 24hour clock. If you lived the Amazon rainforest and never communicated with humans and lived like a animal you would forget that "time" even existed. I bet after you down a fat juicy bowl of some prime bud you would lose sense of time. That should be enough right there to tell you that time isn't real. You can say you're addicted to life. You don't want to waste life because you understand its preciousness.

Time on earth is distant from time in Outer space, everything outside of this planet is already fast-forwarded, but alas, the duration and interval depends on your activity and perception. You heard of boredom right? Boredom is just a passage of time, this is why we daydream, but it's what you make of it that counts. The ode "time is money" is always correct, so use it wisely.

With that type of thought pattern, you are saying GC serves absolutely no purpose in life. That's your prerogative but I'm sure many people here would beg to differ.

  12.
Please show me where I said that?

Your post was pretty self-explanatory, was it not? Maybe not absolute, but toward that line of thinking. You used sarcasm to make a joke.

  14. I wouldn't have 6k posts if I thought it served "absolutely no purpose in life".  Just sayin.  [IMG]

  15. Maybe the act of trying not to waste time preoccupies your mind excessively and prevents you to be aware of the smaller details that exists in the moments that allows you to enjoy it. Like worrying about what to eat for dinner while eating lunch, then next thing you know you just finished your lunch.

  16. What does it mean to be addicted to time? I recognize that some people are bound by time and their loves revolve around this thing that so fetters them. Above all, it's a cause of anxiety. Center yourself and remain timeless, unaffected by the movement of time.

  17. Yeah, I didn't take his comment as a lash out either.  A friendly jab at best    [IMG]

  18. Keep in mind that time is relative. Your perception of time can be very unique to you.

It's ok that you are constantly thinking about time. You may be at a point where you are reevaluating what you think is important.

It sounds like you have some conflict residing within you.

The idea of perception of time is quite fascinating. The idea of time is very linear and unique to the human experience.

Some individuals tend to obsess over time, meanwhile that obsession tends to mitigate the whole reason we ponder time by preoccupying our minds thus leading to the what some people label as "wasting time."

The concept of time will always be an infinite paradoxical illusion to the human experience.

  19. I don't think it's even uniquely human. Animals experience time as well. While they don't focus on a clock or a calendar, they base their actions on certain times of day, certain times of the year, and the seasons.

  20. that was so beautiful pie... I want pie
When i eat pie i think just about all the intangible troubles i have seem to become irrelevent... All the worries not positively assessed causing a hiatus among joy, become relatively weightless..
I should work on making my life feel like i'm eating pie all the time...
    Thanks pie
